Friday April 18, 2008

Our first Camping Adventure in April was to Jim Hogg Park. We arrived at Jim Hogg Park about 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. There were many campsites still available. Mom and dad decided to stay on the upper loop because there would be less people and dogs. The lower loop is closer to the lake so most of families stay there. After mom and dad set up camp we had dinner. Mom and dad had sandwiches and I had my special food. When we were finished dinner my parents took me for a walk to the boat ramp so I could go swimming. While I was swimming I found a big branch floating in the lake. I wasn’t sure what it was so I checked it out. Mom and dad sat on a rock watching me. After I got tired of swimming I walked back to my parents. My parents and I watched people putting there boats in water while I rested. We saw children wakeboarding and tubing. It was fun watching the people but now it's time to head back to our campsite.

Our adventure back to our campsite was through the lower loop camping ground. I saw a lot of dogs and people. One dog I met was Shadow he was a young black lab. He came up to me to say hi. We said hi but he wanted to run around but we couldn’t because it was too busy. His masters called him back and we continued our walk back. A little farther down the loop I met another dog he came over to say hi but it was so busy her dad came over to get her. When we got back to the upper loop I saw a lot more dogs and people. I was getting tired so by the time we got back to the campsite we sat in our chairs to rest. We rested for a couple of hours and then we went inside the Minnie. Mom baked some cinnamon rolls for dessert.

Saturday April 19, 2008

Mom woke me up about 7:00 a.m. to go for my morning walk before breakfast. When we returned to the Minnie dad was still in bed. Mom fed me my special food and we waited for dad to get out of bed. I didn’t take dad too long to do that but once dad got dress mom and dad ate breakfast. After breakfast we went for a 2 hour hike. The hike was great. I met a jogger and biker. We didn’t hike as far as we usually did but it was still fantastic. We hiked to the waterfall where we had to crossover a creek to get to the trail. This was fun because mom and dad had to walk on rocks so they wouldn’t get wet. I didn’t have to walk on the rocks I just walked through it. Our hike continued up a hill to a rock ridge. Once we got to the rocks mom and dad sat down on the rocks to rest. While mom and dad rested I did a little exploring and dad took pictures. After mom and dad were rested we turned around and headed back to the campground. We arrived at our campsite about 10:00 a.m. It was too early for lunch so we sat in our chairs and rested

In the afternoon we walked to the boat ramp. When we arrived at the boat ramp there were a lot of activities going on. People were putting their boats in Lake Georgetown and other people were flying kites. I barked at the kite when I first saw them because I never seen one before. When ever I see something in the sky which I never seen in the sky before I will bark at it. Mom explained to me that it was a kite and it was ok for them to be in the sky. After I watched the kites for a while I went to the lake so I could go swimming. I swam for a long time. While I was swimming mom and dad watched people put their boat in the lake. Dad took pictures of the boats and the toys that were in the boats. The lake was a little busy today because the weather was gorgeous and warm. When I was finished swimming we went back to the campground.

On the way back to the Minnie I met a few dogs. The first campsite in the lower loop I met two dogs a German Sheppard pup and an Irish Wolfhound. The Irish Wolfhound was a big dog I wasn’t sure about him. After he checked me out it was ok so I played with both dogs while mom and dad visit with their mom and dad. We continued our walk towards the Minnie I met a few more and I played with them. One of the dogs was a beautiful red dog and he was very friendly so I played with him. The red dog’s neighbor had two dogs of their own. I met them on the way to the boat ramp but I was excited to see them again. One dog was a black dog and he was very friendly his name was Sam. So I played with him but his brother wasn’t as friendly so their mom and dad kept him back. I had so much fun playing with all the dogs but once we got back I was very tired. So went to my chair to rest. When I was resting more people were showing up. The campsite right across from two ladies showed up with a dog and a boy. I was too tired to play with the dog. I slept for the rest of the afternoon. Mom and dad sat in their chairs and just enjoyed the rest of the day.

Sunday April 20, 2008

I woke my mom and dad up about 6:45 a.m. Mom took me for a little walk. While we were walking mom talked to one of the ladies across from us. The lady told mom that their dog was looking for me when he woke up but I didn’t see me because I was inside of the Minnie. So the other lady took him for a walk and when he got back he was very excited to see me and wanted to play. But his master wouldn’t let him. That was ok because I was still tired from yesterday. When mom and I got back to the Minnie we had breakfast with dad. After breakfast we got ready to go home because we were going to stop by to see Aunt Louise before she went to work. I had a fantastic time at Jim Hogg Park and I know I will be back again.

SPRING TRIP TO EAST TEXAS IN 2008

This year mom and dad took me back to East Texas for our Spring Trip. I was very excited when mom and dad told me we were going to stop at three different parks. I have never been to any of the parks before. The parks we stayed at were Martin Creek Lake State Park, Lake O' the Pines Corps of Engineers Park and Fairfield Lake State Park. All third parks had a lake and surrounded by tall beautiful trees. The campgrounds were located right off the lakes. It was fantastic I could go swimming right behind our campsite. How cool is that?

Martin Creek Lake State Park was the first park we visit during our Spring Trip. Martin Creek Lake State Park is located in Tatum TX, which is in east Texas southeast of Longview and northeast from my house. The park is a 287 acres park with a 5000-acre lake. It was deeded to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department by the Texas Utilities Generating Company in 1976 and opened to the public the same year. Martin Creek Lake was constructed by the Texas Utilities Generating Company to provide cooling water for a lignite-fired, electric power generation plant.

The park was named after a settler name Daniel Martin who settled with his family on the creek called Hogan’s Bayou in 1833. Martin Creek Lake is known for its fishing. The fish that can be found in Martin Creek Lakeare Largemouth bass, Catfish, Crappie, Sunfish and Red drum. The park has a lot of accomodations to offer visitors. The accomodations are:

Friday April 25, 2008

We arrived at Martin Creek Lake State Park about 6:30 p.m. It took us 6 hours to get there. Dad wasn’t sure if the headquarters was going to be open or close. We were in luck the lady at the office said they were open until 7:00 p.m. because it was the weekend and they were usually busy but during the week they close at 5:00 p.m. Dad checked-in and reserved a campsite in Bee Tree Camping Area for 3 nights. When we got to the campsite mom and dad set-up camp and I explored around the site. After mom and dad finished we went for a walk before it got dark. We walked to the boat ramp. It was about ½ mile to get there. When we got there we saw the 3 docks for your boats, 2 sets of boat ramps, a beach area, a fishing pier and a bridge. The bridge goes to an island that has the primitive camping area for tents. When I saw the lake I really wanted to go swimming but it was too late and I would smell of wet dog for along time. We walked to the fishing pier where I met a family fishing. I enjoyed that very much. After I said hi to the family we went back to the campground to have a dinner.

After dinner we went for another walk. This time we went to where the screened shelters, cabins and cottages were. The park was busy in this area of the park. When we returned to the campsite we sat on our chairs until the sun started to go down. During the time we were sitting in our chairs we heard trains go to the electric plant and leaving the plant. When it started to get dark we went inside and mom baked cookies.

Saturday April 26, 2008

In the morning I woke up mom and dad the same time I usually do about 7:00 a.m. Mom took me for my morning walk. When we returned back to the Minnie mom had breakfast with dad. After breakfast we went for a 4 mile hike and it took 2 hours.

The hike was easy but the actual trail was hard to find. The trail mom and dad decided to take was the bike trail and it wasn’t used as much as the hiking trail. The hiking trail is 1 ½ miles and the bike trail is 6 miles. Both trails go around the lake and occasionally crossover each other. Both trails start at the same trailhead which is right next to the restroom. The bike trail is very beautiful with the tall trees surrounding the trails. I enjoyed this hike because at times we didn’t know where the trail was so we had to do some exploring through the trees to find it. I always like exploring. At one point we couldn’t find the trail at all so we turned around and went to the hiking trail. The hiking trail was used a lot so you could follow it back to the campground. When we hiked the hiking trail it went along the lake. Martin Lake is a gorgeous lake. We stopped at bench to rest. During our rest mom took pictures of the power plant and I went swimming. The water is warm year round because of the power plant so you can go swimming if you want to. We only hiked the outer loop of the bike trail but we had a great hike. Now it’s time to go back to rest and have lunch.

After lunch we went for another hike. The afternoon hike was on the island where the primitive camping is. We hiked for 2 hours. It was a very nice hike. In order to get to the island you have to walk over the bridge. When we arrived at the bridge there were people fishing off the boat docks, the bank of the lake and the fishing pier. During our hike we saw people hiking on the island so I had to stay on leash during the hike. The campsites were along the lake and have many trees. We hiked around the island we hiked through a meadow. The meadow had some wild flowers and it lead you to where you can see how big the power plant is. Dad took pictures as we hiked. When we returned to the bridge more people were using the park. People were putting their boats in the lake, people were swimming and people were fishing. It was very nice seeing people using the park. I’m really tired so now it’s time to go back to the Minnie to rest for the rest of the day.

Sunday April 27, 2008

I woke rested at my normal time and woke up my mom to take me for my morning walk. When we returned to the Minnie mom ate breakfast with dad. After breakfast we went for a shorter hike than we usually do. We hiked 1 ½ miles of the bike trail which is the inner loop. This part of the trail was easy to find. This part of the trail was marked better and looked like it was used more than the part we hiked yesterday. We didn’t hike too far because I wasn’t feeling well and I was still tired. Even though we didn’t hike too far it still a good hike. We returned to the campsite at 10:00 a.m. We sat in our chairs and just enjoyed the rest of the morning. Dad read a book and mom played with her puzzle books while I slept.

In the afternoon we walked down to the boat ramp. We saw some people putting their boats in the lake. While I was watching the boats I met a puppy. He was very cute and wanted to play I wasn’t too sure about this because he was too tiny. I played with him a little bit and than his mom took him for a swim. After the puppy left I just watched the people enjoying the lake. While we were watching the people a park ranger came by and dad started to visit with him. While dad and the park ranger visit I watched the people some more. We learned a lot about Martin Lake and the park. When the park ranger left we went back to the campsite. I wasn’t feeling well so mom and dad decided to stay around the campsite for the rest of the day.

Monday April 28, 2008

I woke mom and dad up at 7:30 a.m. Mom took me for my morning walk around the campground. When we returned to the Minnie mom and dad had breakfast. After breakfast mom and dad broke camp. Today we are leaving Martin Creek Lake State Park and going to Lake O’ the Pines Corps of Engineers Park. My parents and I had a great time at Martin Creek Lake State Park. Mom and dad like this part of Texas because of the tall pine trees. We left Martin Creek Lake State Park early so we could take our time driving to Lake O’ the Pines Park and enjoy the scenery on the way there. My parents and I had a great time at Martin Creek Lake State Park now it's time to go to Lake O' the Pines.

The second park we stopped at was Lake O' the Pines Corps of Engineers Park. Lake O’ the Pines is located 60 miles northwest of Martin Creek Lake State Park. We arrived at Lake O’ the Pines about 1:00 p.m. We have never been to Lake O’ the Pines so we didn’t know where we were going to stay on the lake. Dad drove around to make a decision where to stay. When we reached Ferrels Bridge Dam we saw the lake and stopped to look at the lake. The Lake O’ the Pines is a gorgeous. After mom took pictures dad drove to the main office to get some information about the recreation areas and the lake. The Corps of Engineers have 4 different recreation areas on the Lake O’ the Pines. The recreation areas are Alley Creek, Brushy Creek, Buckhorn Creek and Johnson Creek. The lady in the office recommended Alley Creek Recreation Area because it had hiking trails.

Alley Creek Campground is located on the north shore of Lake O’ the Pines. Alley Creek Campground is located on the north shore of Lake O’ the Pines. Alley Creek Campground provides day-use, group and overnight camping facilities. Alley Creek has many accommodations to offer visitors. The accommodations are:

Monday April 28, 2008

Alley Creek Recreation Area is located just off FM 729. Alley Creek is divided into 4 different sections 2 tent campgrounds and 2 RV campgrounds. We stayed in the second RV campground. We arrived at Alley Creek Campground at 1:30 p.m. The RV site we stayed at backed right up to the lake. It is a beautiful site. Mom and dad set-up camp and I checked the site out. After my parents finished set-up camp we had lunch.

After lunch we went for a walk around the park because mom and dad like to walk around so they could get familiar the campgrounds. We walked through the tent campground to get to the day use area where a hiking trail was suppose to have started. We walked around the boat ramp to looking for the hiking trail but we couldn’t find the trail. After looking for it awhile mom and dad decided to go to the main road of the park to see if they could see any sign of the hiking trail. We walked along the road all the way to a bridge and we still couldn’t find the trail. Once we got to the bridge we walked to the lake and still couldn’t find the trail. After awhile we gave up and head back to the campground.

When we returned to the campground we walked around to get familiar with it. The campground is beautiful because of the tall trees and some of the campsites backed up to the lake. The campground is paved and set up like a RV park. There is a beach area. The beach are has picnic tables and swimming area. Next to the beach area there is a boat ramp and a small beach for pets. When we got to the small beach I went swimming. It felt so good because I was hot. After I swam we headed back and on the way back I met 2 dogs and their mom and dad. We introduced ourselves but it didn’t last too long because one of the dogs didn’t like other female dogs. All of us dogs were on leash so it was easy for our parents to separate us so we wouldn’t get in a fight. Our parents visit for awhile and then we all went back to our RVs. The rest of the day we stayed around the campsite and enjoyed the lake.

Before we turned in for the night mom and dad took me for a walk around the camping area. While we were walking we saw some deer at the far end of the park. I just looked at them because they were too far away to chase after them. When we returned back at the Minnie we went inside and mom baked some cookies.

Tuesday April 29, 2008

I woke my mom up at 7:30 a.m. to take me out for my morning walk. Before the walk mom fed me my special food. When we returned to the Minnie mom and dad had breakfast. After breakfast we went looking for the hiking trail again. We hiked through the tent campground to the day area. Once we got to the day area we looked for the trail again once again we couldn’t find it. So we gave up and walked back to the campground. Right next to the park there is a small neighborhood. When we reached the neighborhood we decided to walk around it. The walk was very nice I saw a lot of deer. A few deer were in the street and some more in a person’s yard. I couldn’t chase the deer because I was on leash but I still enjoyed looking at them. I saw a couple of horses. Some of the homes were on the lake and that was very nice. After looking at the homes we went back to the park. When we returned to the park we walked through some trees and I did a little exploring. We were getting tired so we went back to the campsite. When we returned to the Minnie we sat in our chairs and rested.

While we were relaxing in our chairs we noticed that one of our neighbors was a painter. She had a great view of the lake so she was painting it. Another neighbor was walking her dog and he wanted to meet me so we said hi. After he left we had lunch. After lunch we walked down to the small beach so I could go swimming. While I was swimming I fished out some fish heads. When I finished fishing we went back to campsite. Dad read his book and mom worked on her word book. We spent a lot of time at the campsite because the only hiking trails we found were between the campgrounds.

In the evening we went for our last walk around the park. We saw a raccoon walking around the park host RV in Section 1. Mom and dad were surprise to see a racoon so early in the day. Dad took pictures of the lake, an old oil pump and the group camping area. When we got back to the campsite it was time to go in for the night.

 Wednesday April 30, 2008

I woke mom and dad up about 7:30 a.m. Mom fed me and thane took me for a morning walk. When we returned to the Minnie mom and dad ate breakfast. After breakfast mom and dad broke camp so we could continue our Spring Trip. We left Alley Creek Recreation Area early to go to our final destination which is Fairfield Lake State Park. Fairfield Lake State Park is 156 miles from Lake O’ the Pines. Mom and dad knew it would take us awhile to get there. The drive to Fairfield Lake State Park is a very nice drive through the country side.

Fairfield Lake State Park is located 160 miles southwest of Lake O’ the Pines Corps of Engineer Lake and 181 miles northeast from my house. The park was opened to the public in 1976. It is a beautiful park with a lake. The lake is 2400-acre in size and warm year round because there’s a power plant on it. There are hiking trails around the park boundaries and a 2 mile nature trail. The park has a lot of growth through out the park. There are many accommodations for all visitors to the park. The accommodations are:

Wednesday April 30, 2008

We arrived at Fairfield Lake State Park at 1:00 p.m. Dad checked in at the gate for 2 nights. The camping areas are located about 4 miles from the gate. The drive to the campgrounds is gorgeous because of all the trees and the thick growth along the way. Our camping area was Cooks Ferry Camping Area. The actually site was great because it backed up to the lake. There was hardly anyone at the park so we could change our site if we wanted but we liked the site we had. When we got to the campsite mom and dad set up camp and I did a little exploring around the site. When mom and dad finished they had lunch and mom gave me a snack.

After lunch we went for a walk around park. Mom and dad like to get familiar with where the hiking trails are located and the rest of the park. It was a great walk. During our walk I saw a few people and dogs. We found the nature trailhead. The nature trail is 2 mile loop trail. We didn’t go on the nature trail today but tomorrow we will. Dad took a few pictures and than we walked to boat ramp. Once we got to the boat ramp I went swimming while mom and dad took pictures. After I finished my swim we headed back to the campsite. When we got back to the Minnie we relaxed on our chairs and enjoyed the surroundings until dinnertime.

After dinner we went for an evening walk. During our walk we met our neighbors. Our neighbors had 2 dogs. They were small dogs and were very friendly. When we saw each other we had to say hello. After we were finished playing my parents and I continued our walk through the campgrounds. A little farther down the road we met a couple from Temple Texas and they had two dogs. They had a Golden Retriever named Windy and a Yellow Lab named Lucky. Lucky really wanted to meet me so his mom said ok. All 3 of us dogs checked each other out while mom and dad visit with their mom and dad. After we all finished visiting we went back to the campground. While we were sitting around the campsite the sun started to go down and it was so beautiful mom had to take some pictures of it. After the sun set finished setting Lucky and Windy came by with their parents. Lucky and I cried for each other like this was the first time we ever saw each other. After they left we went inside for the night. Mom baked some cookies.

Thursday May 1, 2008

I woke mom up at 7:30 a.m. to take me on my morning walk. Mom fed me my special food while she got dressed. After she got dressed we went on our walk. When we returned to the Minnie mom and dad ate breakfast. Afterwards we went on a 4 mile hike for 2 hours. We hiked to the day used area to get to the hiking trail. The hiking trail name is Dockery Trail. The hike was an easy hike through trees and by the lake. When we were hiking the trail by one of the lake’s cove I chased a wild hog out the mud up a hill. Mom and dad called me back before I got to close to the hog because they were afraid that the hog would hurt me. I was still excited about finding the hog he was a big one. We watched him run up the hill and down the hiking trail. I went looking for him but I couldn’t find him again. After awhile I gave up looking for the hog we hiked along the banks of the Fairfield Lake. While hiking by the lake we saw a lot of birds fishing for breakfast. Dad took pictures of the birds and the lake. When we returned to the beginning of our hike mom and dad found a log to sit on to rest. I was ready for rest by then too so I lay down. After our rest we hiked back to the campsite.

When we returned to the campsite mom and dad walked me to the lake so I could go for a swim before lunch. It felt so good to go for a swim because it was a little humid. After I finished my swim we walked back to the campsite and had lunch. In the afternoon we went for a walk around the campground. Mom and dad wanted to walk around the tent area so we headed towards the camping area. In order to get to the tent area we had to walk by where Lucky and Windy was staying. Lucky and Windy were in their truck waiting for their parents to finish visiting with another camper about fishing. Mom and dad stopped and visit for awhile. While they were visiting a lady came out of the RV and played with me. After I finished playing we continued our walk to the tent area. The tent camping area was very nice. When we were walking area we saw a young fawn. I wanted to play with him but I was on leash so I couldn’t. He was looking for his mom so we left my alone and continued our walk. After our walk we returned to the campsite and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon in our chairs. While we were sitting in our chairs our neighbors came by and I said hi to the dogs.

After dinner we went for our evening walk around the day area. While we were walking around we saw a deer. Every time mom tried to take a picture of him he would walk farther away from us so she had a hard time getting a picture but she did get one picture. It was starting to get late so we went back to the campsite. When we returned to the campsite we watched the sunset. Before we went in for the evening mom and dad packed up the chairs and the barbeque grill because there is a chance of rain. In the morning we were going to leave to go home.

Friday May 2, 2008

I woke my mom and dad up about 7:00 a.m. It had rain during the night and it was still sprinkling this morning. Mom fed me my special food. Then sat down and had breakfast with dad. Mom and dad waited for the rain to stop before they took me for a walk before we headed home. After our walk around the campground mom and dad finished getting ready to go home.

On the way home we stopped at Belton Texas. We drove around Belton for awhile. We stopped at one of Lake Belton’s boat ramp to stretch our legs. After we walked around for awhile we headed home. Before we left Belton we stopped and had lunch at McDonalds. After lunch we went home.

I had a great time on our Spring Trip but I’m very tired so I have to say good-bye to get some rest.

My parents and I woke up about 8:00 a.m. and had a breakfast. After breakfast I wanted to go some where because I was bored. Mom and dad said ok we’ll go for a hike. Dad drove us to Lakeway for a hike. We hiked about an hour for two miles. We hiked the Upper Canyon Loop Trail this is a very easy trail to hike. The trail goes through trees and se very beautiful. Since the last time we were here the volunteers had built a bridge which is at the beginning of the trail. People couldn’t walk on it because it wasn’t finished but it didn’t stop me I walked right over it. I did some exploring during our hike of the loop. After we finished the loop we hiked part of the Rim Trail. We hiked the Canyon Descent Trail. We didn’t see any body or dogs on the trail during our hike so I did a lot of exploring. When we were almost back to the truck I met a four year old golden retriever I was excited to see him and he was excited to see me. We played with each other for a while. I also met a couple of ladies that were hiking and I ran up to them to say hello and they were happy to see me. While I was playing with the retriever I met a couple of guys riding their bikes. I really enjoyed my hike at the Canyonlands Trails. I always meet people and dogs during my hikes at Lakeway and this makes my day.

LOCATION: Tucson, Arizona   SITE: Grandmom's 80th Birthday   DATE: 04/04/08 – 04/06/08

My Grandmom was turning 80 this month so mom decided to fly into Tucson to help celebrate it. This is the first time I was left home only with dad for the weekend. I missed my mom but I had fun with my dad. I’m going to let mom write about her visit with her family.

Aunt Donna's house

Photo of  Donna's Guest House

Friday April 4, 2008

I’m the third oldest of nine children. I have five sisters and three brothers. This year my mom was turning 80 so I decided to fly to Tucson to surprise her on her birthday. I stayed with my sister Donna who is the youngest of the children. Donna has four children of her own. She told me I could stay with her because she had just finished remodeling her house and added on a guest house. I stayed in her guest house. I’m an earlier riser than she is so this worked out very well. It was great to see the sunrise on the mountains. Her husband Stan is an early riser also so it gave us sometime to visit before the rest of the family woke up.

I arrived in Tucson about 11:30 a.m. and headed towards Donna’s house. I had not driven in Tucson for about 18 years so I got lost getting there. It took me two hours to get to her house from the airport. After going around in circles for an hour I parked the car and called Donna. I found out I was only two blocks away from her house. When I finally got to Donna’s house I found out that two of her girls had stayed home from school to have lunch with me. Another one of my sisters Andrea was also there. After I settled in we all went to lunch. We ate a lite lunch at Egee’s. When we finished lunch we went back to Donna’s house to wait for the other two kids to come home from school. I spent the rest of the afternoon visiting with my sisters and the four kids.

When dinnertime came around we went to meet my parents and another sister Alexis at Texas Roadhouse. My parents didn’t know I was coming because I wanted to surprise them. I did surprise them I found out that my sisters could keep a secret after all. My mom was so surprise she cried and had to sit down. We had to wait awhile to get seated because it was Friday night and our party was for nine people. We had a great time at dinner. On the way back to Donna’s house we stopped by to see one of my brothers Michael and his family. Michael has two girls. We visit and played games for an hour. By the time I got back to my Donna’s house it was late so I called it a night.

I woke up about 5:30 a.m. because of the time change it was really was 7:30 a.m. Texas time. The Murphy bed was very comfortably to sleep on. When I got up I opened the doors and just enjoyed the morning breeze coming through the guest house. Stan joined me in the guest house and we visit a little while before the rest of the family woke up.

Donna was going to be busy today getting ready for the birthday party and I was going to visit Shirley my mother in-law. Before I went over to Shirley’s house I went to breakfast with a couple of my nieces and a nephew at Jethro’s Little Café. My brother Greg owns Jethro’s. It’s a cute little café that is opened for breakfast and lunch. Greg does the cooking and the food is delicious. While we were at Jethro’s I visit with Greg and took pictures. I dropped the kids off at their home and then went to visit with Shirley before the party.

Shirley's dog Holly is part heeler and I was sure how she going to react to me after not seeing her for five years. When I arrived at Shirley's house Holly started to bark. I started to talk to her and she calmed down and we became friends. I played fetch with her while Shirley and I visit. About 3:00 p.m. Shirley gave Holly a treat and we went to Mom's party.

Grandmom's 80th Party

Photo of Mom's 80th Birthday

My mom’s 80th Birthday party was fantastic. Over sixty people of all ages were at the party. I saw people I hadn’t seen in years and I met people I didn’t know. My sister that lives in Virginia couldn’t be at the party because she couldn’t take her two children out of school. Twelve of her sixteen grandchildren were there. The food was prepared by Greg. Stan, Greg and Michael served the food. We had prime rib, chicken, salads and rolls. The food was delicious. After dinner we had fun broking two piñatas. One was for adults with celery, broccoli, carrots and other vegetables. The other one was for the children with candy and toys. It was fun watching everyone trying to break them. The children had a great time running after all the stuff that came out of them. After the piñatas were broken pictures were taken of all us children and grandchildren that were there. One of mom’s friends entertained us by sing songs during the party. The party started at 4:00 p.m. and was over by 8:00 p.m. It seemed liked everyone had a great time. I took Shirley home and we said our good-byes. When I got back to Donna's house it was all cleaned up so I visit with my nieces and nephew. About 10:00 p.m. we called it a night.

Sunday April 6, 2008

I woke up about 6:00 a.m. and went upstairs to the balcony and enjoyed the morning breeze. Stan joined me on the balcony and we visit until the rest of the family woke up. When the children woke up Stan cooked breakfast. We had either French toast or waffles.

After breakfast I visit with Donna and her family until it was time to go over to my parents’ house. We said our good-byes and thanked them for their hospitality. My flight was at 6:00 p.m. and I had to be at the airport by 4:00 p.m. and I knew I wouldn’t see them before I left. I got to my parents house about 12:00 p.m. we waited for Alexis, Andrea and Andrea’s family to show up. When they arrived we went to Los Margaritas for lunch. Los Margaritas is a very nice Mexican Restaurant where I like to eat at when ever I come to town. Los Margaritas has a lunch buffet on Sundays this was very nice that way you have a chance to try different Mexican dishes. We had a great lunch.

When went back to my parents’ house and visit until it was time for brother’s talk show on the radio. My oldest brother Phillip has a talk show on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. His show is about the animals and plants that are found around Tucson. Phillip starts his show by giving you information a particular subject. Then you can call in and ask questions about the subject. Today was a special day because my nieces and nephews were calling in to wish my mom a Happy 80th Birthday. I had to leave before the show was over but I did listen to it on the way to the airport.

I had a super time visiting my family but now it was time to go home. When I got back to Austin it was 11:00 p.m. so Larry and Flo were sleeping. I woke Larry just to let him know I back in town and would be home in a little while. When I arrived at home I said hello to Flo and played with her. Then I put her back in her kennel and went to bed.

We decided not to go camping this weekend because we had to do some things around the house. Mom had to do a dumpster run to the Homeowner’s park so she asked me if I wanted to go. What a dumb question of course I wanted to go. While mom was putting the trash in to dumpster I went exploring in the trees and I looked for my friends. I didn’t see any of them so I went to the lake for a swim. When mom finished with the trash she met me at the lake. I swam, chases the ducks and look for fish in the lake. I always have so much fun I don’t want to go home. On the way back to where the truck was parked I did a little exploring while mom took some pictures. I was almost back to the truck when I decided to see if I could find some of my friends at their home. I was in luck this time I found a couple of them and I played with them for a while. After I was finished playing mom took me home so I could rest.
