Tuesday December 4, 2012 to Monday December 10, 2012

Aunt Louise has been in her house for over twenty years. She asked dad to redo her deck in the backyard a few months ago. Dad suggested instead of doing her deck why not remodel her two bedrooms. She was very excited that dad suggested the remodeling and agreed to it. Dad told her that we couldn't do the remodeling until we got back from our Fall Trip. She aid that would be great and dad told her that she needed to take a week off of work. So she asked for some time off and the earliest she could get off was December 4th through December 10th. Dad knew there was a lot of work to be done and probably wouldn’t be done in a week so mom and dad started to work on the remodeling a couple of weeks earlier. Mom and dad went over to Aunt Louise's house on her days off to start on Aunt Louise’s second bedroom. First of all they moved all the furnisher out of the room. Then they pulled up the carpeting, pad and tack stripe. Afterwards they pulled the floor boards and took off the closet door and room door. When they finished they came home to me. While mom and dad were at home they painted the floor boards and the trim around the doors. They had bought enough boards for both rooms so they painted all the boards. When they were painting the boards Aunt Louise removed the glue from the floor. When mom and dad returned to Aunt Louise’s house they painted the bedroom. Before starting on the bedrooms Aunt Louise had a man come out and work on her walls and ceiling but he didn’t do them right. Before painting the bedrooms dad had to rework the walls, closets and ceilings. Mom and dad changed the color of the walls and closet from a blue to a yellow (vanilla wafer). The ceiling was changed from blue to a white. The doors of the closest and entrance was just repainted a white. The floor boards and trim around the doors were painted white. The floors went from blue carpeting to a Pergo flooring (Young Pecan). After the bedroom was finished the room looked bigger and gorgeous. When they finished the second bedroom they moved to the master bedroom. Instead of putting the furniture back into the second bedroom they moved the furniture out of the master bedroom into the second bedroom. When they remodeled the master bedroom they changed the walls and closet from blue to a brown (Camel) and the ceiling was repainted white. The blue carpet was replaced with the same Pergo. The closet door was repainted white and the entrance door changed from a brown to white. The floor boards and door trims were painted white. Once again when they finished the room it looked bigger and gorgeous. Before mom and dad left Aunt Louise’s house they put her furniture back in both bedrooms. While mom and dad worked at Aunt Louise’s house I stayed home so I wouldn’t be in the way. Mom and dad said while they were working my cousin Autumn was very good she stayed out of the way. Once in awhile she would check out where everyone was and what they were doing. She is so small when anyone came near her she would run to her chair so she wouldn’t be stepped on. I really don’t blame her I would do the same thing if I was her size. Mom and dad had a super time remodeling Aunt Louise’s bedrooms.

Wednesday December 12, 2012

Today was very special because mom took me to the homeowners park so I could go swimming. This was the third time this month mom has taken me to the park. The first time was Saturday December 1st. While we were at the park I was a couple of homeowners and two children. They were flying their radio control airplane. I have never seen one close up so one time when they landed the plane on the water I went up to it to check it out. When I got close to it one of the men thought I was going to bite it. Mom told them I was only going to check it out and I wasn't going to eat it. She told them I was used to radio control cars but I never seen an airplane. She also told them that when I see a plane in the sky I watch it until I can't see it any more. The children said hi to me so this made my day. The second time I went to the park was Monday December 3rd. Mom and dad were going to be at Aunt Louise's house for a week so mom decided to take me to the park. Mom drove me to the park because she wanted to take the trash to the dumpster. While we were there we walked around the park. I explored, swam and walked on the dock. The third visit was today. We walked to the park. As we were walking to the lake we said hi to my neighbors because we always walk by their house. Once at the park I swam, explored and walked on the dock and around the park. But on the way home from the park we didn't walk by my friends house we decided to walk along the main road. It was a little farther but I could do a little more exploring. Mom put me on leash while we walked on the road and then she took me off when we got to our street. While I was on leash mom let me do some exploring. On all three occasion we were at the park about an hour to an hour and half. I always have a great time because mom walks around the park with me and let me do my own thing. I'm really a lucky dog.

I pestered mom for awhile because I wanted to go to the park. Mom really didn't want to take me because it was overcast. But she gave in after about awhile. The weather is starting to cool off so our walk to the park was very nice. We walked by my friends house and they came out to say hi. After mom and I said hi we went to the park. While walking down to the lake a truck came into the park so I chased after it. When it stopped by the dock and ran to the say hi to the person in the truck. A young guy got out of the truck and walked to the dock so I followed him. While walking with him I looked over my shoulder to make sure mom was coming. She kept telling me it was ok. He did pay attention to me. Mom joined us on the dock and they both said hi. After we walked on the dock we walked around the park. The last time we were here I found a dead fish in the water and tried to eat it but mom told me to leave it alone so today I went back to where I found it. It was still there and mom told me the same thing. She kept telling me to keep on walking until I lost interest. We were at the park about an hour. During our visit I swam and explored. When we finished walking around we walked home the same way we walked home our last visit. I liked our new route that way I don't disturb my friends a second time. We had a great time at the park.

Last night mom and dad tried to watch a live Christmas Concert from Blue Rock Studio but it wouldn't work. After dad tried a few times and on two different computer systems he wrote Blue Rock Studio an e-mail and asked them just to reschedule them for tonight. They wrote back and told dad that they made a change and found the problem and fixed it. They told him that they checked out each access code to make sure they worked. They refunded him his $10 and told him to use the code for tonight. Mom and dad were surprise they refunded their money and told them they were free to watch the concert tonight. So at 7:30 mom and dad watched the concert. The performers in the concert were Tom Prasada Rao, R.J. Cowdery, Billy Crockett and Dirje Smith. Tom Prasada Rao was born in Ethiopia of Indian parents. He came to the U.S. when he was three years old. He was raised on R&B and Ravi Shankar. R.J. Cowdery was a nurse and wrote songs on the side. Finally at the age where most people think about retirement she decided to make music her career. She is a folk singer and writer. Billy Crockett and his wife Dodee are owners of the Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio. He retreated from performing and recording in 2000. He now produces albums for some vital artists, edits a thriving journal on creative process and hosts the concerts at Blue Rock Studio. Dirje Smith is a cellist. She performs with artists at festivals, recording studio and chamber ensembles. She is a therapist during the day. The performers sang some of their own songs and carol-singing. The concert was very enjoyable and everyone performing looked like they were having fun. The last two nights at the Blue Rock Studio were the first time Tom Prasada Rao and R.J. Cowdery ever performed together. It was incredible.

Monday December 24, 2012

We usually on Christmas Eve Aunt Louise comes out to open Christmas presents but this year she had to work. But she's off on Christmas so we're going to open them up than. That was ok with us because it gave mom plenty of time to get ready. Today mom took me down to the homeowners park so I could swim and explore. We drove the truck down to the park because mom had to stop by the dumpster and get rid of our garbage. While we were at the park I met two new friends. One friend I met while mom and I were walking along the banks of the lake. Her name was Kelly. She and I played while mom and her dad talked. They're new to the neighborhood they have been here for about six months and this was the first time I ever saw Kelly. After we said our good byes mom and I started to walk back to the truck. When we got back to the truck we met a family and their dog. They were playing on the playscape so mom and I went over to say hi. The family only had the dog for two days. The dog was a present from Santa Claus so they named him Saint Nick but called him Nick. He was only nine months old and it was the first time he ever played with another dog. I had a lot of fun playing with him. We chased after each other. This surprised mom because usually I just check other dogs out and that's it. Today I was just in the mood to run and play. After a while we said our good byes and mom put me in the truck. Then we went home. I had a fantastic time at the park.

When we got home mom made a coconut creme pie and homemade noodles for tomorrow. She also made hard boiled eggs for deviled eggs for tomorrow. While she was doing this I stayed in the kitchen to keep her company. Mom cooked all afternoon so in the evening I slept because I was tired. Mom and dad watched "The Polar Express" because it was Christmas and mom baked Christmas cookies. We had a very relaxing Christmas Eve.

The relish tray and deviled eggs                                        Aunt Louise and Cousin Autumn

Tuesday December 25, 2012

Merry Christmas!!!! This year was a special Christmas because my Cousin Autumn came over with her mom Aunt Louise to celebrate Christmas with us. Aunt Louise and Cousin Autumn came out about 3:30. Mom put out a relish tray and deviled eggs for a snack. After visiting for a little while mom started to make dinner. Mom cooked up ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, stuffing and corn bread with green chiles and cheese in it. Everything was delicious. When everyone sat down for dinner mom fed Autumn and me my food for our dinner. After dinner we opened our Christmas presents. It took us about three hours to open all the presents. We all got fantastic gifts. When we finished opening the gifts we had dessert. Mom learned how to make Coconut and Banana Creme pie. Everytime mom makes the pie the better it is. We had a very super Christmas. Thank you mom for all the delicious food. Thanks for all the wonderful gifts. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Good night everyone.

Sunday December 16, 2012

I’m very excited because we’re going camping today. We haven’t been camping since our Fall Trip. We’re going to Buescher State Park. We’ve been there many times but we haven’t been there in two years. Buescher is located right off Highway 71 at Smithville, which is 65 miles from my house. We didn’t leave to go to Buescher until after lunch because it was a little wet outside and dad wanted to wait until the roads dried a little. We arrived at the park at 2:00. Dad checked in at the office. The lady in the office assigned up the handicap site in Cozy Circle because there were only two other campers there. Dad told her if a handicap camper came in we would move. The site is bigger then the other site and it has concrete walkways and is right across the street from the bathroom. We stayed at this site before and we really liked it. It cost us $15 a night instead of $17 because it’s non-peak season. The non-peak season is December through February and June through September. Once we parked the Minnie for three nights we set up our chairs and than we went for a walk. We walked to the group recreation hall, which was built by the CCC and through the tent area. The tent area also had a big CCC building with picnic tables and fireplaces. As we walked around mom took pictures. We walked for about an hour. When we returned to our camp site we sat in our chairs until dinner. For dinner mom made tostadas for dad and her and she fed me my food. After dinner we walked around the campground. As we were walking we met our neighbor. Our neighbor was a young guy with a black lab puppy named Kelly. Kelly came up to us to say hi but she didn’t stay too long because her master called her back. That made my day. By the time we got back to the Minnie it was starting to get dark so we went inside and called it a night. While we were inside mom read and did some Sudoku puzzles. Dad relaxed and I slept. We had a great day.

Monday December 17, 2012

This morning we woke up at 7:30. Dad slept on the couch last night because he was having problems sleeping because of the out gassing of the mattress. So dad got up first and made oatmeal for breakfast. While he was waiting for the oatmeal to cook he fed me my breakfast. Mom crawled out a bed about fifteen minutes later. Mom wasn’t in any hurry to get out of bed because we were going to be here a few days. It was nice sleeping last night because when we woke up it was nice and warm in the Minnie. When mom and dad had decided they wanted to go camping they decided to buy a new electric heater. Our old heater still works but it’s starting to slow down and make noises and they have been looking for a new one for awhile. They wanted a heater that was small and had a digital thermostat. They finally found one at Target so they bought it. Last night was a perfect night to test it out. It worked super. After everyone finished eating their breakfast we went on a hike. We hiked 7 miles of the hiking trail for about 3.5 hours. We started from Cozy Circle Camp Area and walked to the gas line, which was about .5 mile. The trail use to go down the gas line for about .5 mile but the trail was charged, where you walk to the other side of the road and walked through the trees. This change was very nice because now you walked through trees instead of out in the open. The only problem is when we would walk down the gas line we would see deer grazing in the open and today we didn’t see any. Our hike was very peaceful and beautiful. Because no one was on the hiking trail dad let me off leash so I could explore and do my thing. The trail was muddy at the beginning because of the rain we had yesterday. Some parts of the trail we had to climb up and down hills so this gave us a little bit of a workout. We had to cross a couple of roads during our hike so dad made sure I crossed the roads with him. On the way back to Cozy Circle when we got to the gas line we walked the road back instead of the gas line because that part of the trail was really muddy. When we got back to the beginning of the trail we walked through the tent area to get back to Cozy Circle. By the time we got back to the Minnie we were tried because it was awhile since we had done any hiking. So we went straight to our chairs to relax. Mom and dad snacked on chips and mom gave me some chicken and a bone. As we were relaxing we realized that one of the two campers were gone so that means there were only the park hosts and Kelly and her master left camping. When lunchtime came around mom made ham and salami sandwiches for dad and her and she fed me my food. After lunch we stayed outside and enjoyed the park. Everyone was tired and just didn’t feel like doing anything. Dad went inside of the Minnie and tried to sleep and mom and I stayed outside. Mom read and worked on her Sudoku and I slept. While we were relaxing a few people showed up at the tent area. So I guess we weren’t the only campers. When dinnertime came around dad barbecued some sausage patties for mom and his dinner. They had potato salad to go with the burgers. Mom fed me my food. After dinner we went for a walk we didn’t go too far because we were still tired. We walked to the tent area to see how many campers were there. We saw three cars, four tents and three dogs. We didn’t count how many people were there. When we got back we went inside. Mom baked some oatmeal and raisin cookies. She over cooked them a little because she forgets that the oven cooks a little different than the oven at home. But at least we had cookies and they tasted good even though they were crunchy. We had a fantastic day.

Tuesday December 18, 2012

Today we woke up about the same time as yesterday. Dad slept on the couch again. He slept a little better but not perfect. Dad got up and started to make oatmeal for his and mom breakfast. While he was waiting for his oatmeal he fed me my breakfast. Dad was almost finished with his breakfast when mom crawled out of bed. While mom was getting dressed dad made oatmeal for her. Dad is so good to mom and me. After everyone was finished with breakfast we went on a hike. Our hike was 4 miles round trip. We hiked to the cancer research center and then turned around and hiked back. We didn’t hike too far because we were soar from yesterday and it was a little humid. When we got to the gas line road we saw a few deer grazing. When I saw them I decided to run after them. I didn’t go too far because I was tired and I also knew I couldn’t catch them. I still had fun. On our way back to the gas line we saw a deer in the trees. It still surprises us when we see deer in the trees because they’re so quiet and you can’t hear them going through the trees. When we got to the road by the gas line we decided to walk the road back to Cozy Circle. We walked the same route as we did yesterday. The group in the tent area dogs started to bark at us. Their masters tried to quiet them but it was hard to quiet them because they were just saying hi to me. Once the dogs couldn’t see me they quiet down. Once again when we got back we went to our chairs to relax. Today our hike was only 2 hours instead of 3.5 hours. Mom and dad snacked on chips and I snacked on a bone and a little chicken. When lunchtime came around mom and dad had tostadas. After lunch we went outside. Mom worked on her Sudoku, dad read and I slept and sunned. A little while later mom and dad went to take a shower. They didn’t go together because they didn’t want to leave me alone. When they finished taking their showers we continued relaxing outside. When dinnertime came around mom and dad had the leftover sausage patties and I had my food. After dinner we walked around the park again. When we were on the way back to our site Kelly came out to say hi. Her owner called her back and I went to him to say hi. When we got back to the Minnie we went inside. Mom made cookies again tonight she didn’t cook them as long but the cookies were still over cooked. She decided maybe she needs to turn down the temperature of the oven next time. But once again the cookies were good. Now it’s time to say good night because I’m really tired.

Buc-ee's

Wednesday December 19, 2012

Mom woke up real early. She woke up at 4:30 and couldn't go back to sleep so she got up about 5:00. Dad was sleeping on the couch so he decided to get up also. Dad said it was ok because we could leave early and beat the traffic go to Austin from Bastrop. The reason mom got up early was because she went to bed at 9:00 instead of 11:00. It was warm last night so we didn't have to use the heater. Mom fed me my breakfast and then poured a glass of milk for dad and her. They decided that they would eat on the road. Their breakfast was Rice Crispy Treats instead of oatmeal. After mom and dad got the Minnie ready to leave we went on a little walk so I could take care of business. Before leaving Buescher State Park we dumped the tanks. We left Buescher about 5:30. We stopped in Bastrop at Buc-ee's to get gas. We got gas there because it was the cheapest gas we have seen in a long time. For unleaded gas we paid $2.909. We got home at 7:30 and we did beat the traffic until we got to Austin. We had a great camping adventure at Buescher State Park.
