February Trips 2006

LOCATION: Hill County Johnson City, Texas     SITE: Pedernales Falls
DATE: 2/24/06 – 2/26/06     SPACE: 47     TRIPS: 1     DISTANCE: 45 miles

Pedernales Falls State Park: The campgrounds are located about 2 ½ miles from the actual falls at Pedernales Falls. The campsites are very nice, every campsite have many trees and individual barbeque grills. The grills are designed where you can have a camp fire or grill. There are some hiking trails, the trails lead to the Pedernales River, picnic area and swimming area. The trails are fantastic because you go up and down the mountain side along the river. The hiking is very pleasant and peaceful. One of the trails is on the other side of the river, you have to go through the river to get to it. The hike to the actual Pedernales Falls is along the main road, the falls were magnificent. After this trip mom and dad decided to give me my own chair because I kept taking mom's chair.

My family and I arrived at Pedernales Falls State Park about 4:30 p.m. mom and dad set-up for our first camping experience with the Minnie. The campgrounds are very nice. You were exclusive from your neighbors because of all the trees. I was excited being at a new place and so was mom and dad. After we settled in mom and I went for a little walk around the campsite. We had to be careful where we walked because there was cactus all over the place.

Saturday February 25, 2006

My family and I got up about 7:00 a.m. mom and dad had some rolls for breakfast and I had my special food. About 7:30 a.m. we went for a hike we walked by the Pedernales River. It was very beautiful and peaceful. We saw a pack of about 20-30 wild hogs. They were at the river getting a drink, when they heard us they ran up the hill. Mom tried to get a picture of them but they were too fast and dark in color to get a good picture. Further down the river we saw three deer running across the river, I really like deer. The hike was about 3 ½ hours. The trail we hiked took us from space 34 in the campground to Trammel Crossing, above the Bluffs to Tobacco Creek down to Wolf Mountain Trail through Twin Falls to Regal Creek. We hiked about 7-8 miles.
In the afternoon we walked to the beach area and around the picnic area of the Pedernales River, I went swimming. It was very beautiful and nice. We walked another 1 ½ hours about 3 miles. We walked through a wooded area to get back. We ended up at a very nice picnic area, it was very well maintained. It was a fantastic walk we took Trammel Crossing back to the campgrounds. At the host spot of the campground we saw a couple of deer. When we got back to our space mom and I went for a little walk and saw 4 more deer. It was a fantastic day. We had hamburgers for lunch and pancakes for dinner. The pancakes were delicious, dad cooked them on the grill.

Sunday February 26, 2006

We woke up about 7:00 a.m. and had breakfast. Afterwards we went for a walk down to the actual falls. The walk to the Pedernales Falls was 2 miles from the campgrounds. It was very beautiful at the falls. The water was flowing nicely. Mom and I walked down to the falls where I went swimming. We got back to camp about 11:00 a.m. We had lunch and got ready to leave. Mom and dad broke camp about 1:00 p.m. It was a fantastic camping experience and we will be doing another one soon  if I can survive. I'm tired and so are my mom and dad.
