Friday January 9, 2009

We arrived at Pedernales Falls State Park at 3:45 p.m. Dad checked in we didn’t have to drive around the park to decide on which campsite we were going to stay at dad knew exactly where he wanted to stay. While dad was checking in mom took me for walk. When we got back dad drove to the campsite. Once we were there mom and dad set up camp for the weekend. After they finished we went for a walk around the campground for about an hour. When we got back we had dinner. Dad barbecued steak for mom and he and mom gave me my special food. After dinner we went for another walk around the campground and met our next door neighbor. They played with me for awhile and than we went to the Minnie for the night. Mom baked oatmeal cookies for dessert.

Saturday January 10, 2009

We woke up at 7:30 am. Mom fed me and took me for my morning walk. When we got back mom had breakfast with dad. After breakfast we went for a 3 hour hike for 5 miles. We hiked along the Pedernales River and up a hill. The hill was a lot of fun because we had to make our own trail to get to the top because the wild hogs had messed up the trail. We didn’t mind doing this. We hiked through trees all the way to the top. Once we were on top we at the Primitive Camping Area. We hiked along the rim and through more trees. While we were hiking through the Primitive Camping Area we met some people and a few mountain bikers. I enjoyed this because when ever we met someone they paid attention to me. Also during the hike we saw a few deer. When we got back it was lunchtime.

Before lunch mom, dad and I sat in our chairs and rested. It was very windy and cold so we didn’t rest too long before we went inside. Mom gave me a treat and fixed lunch for dad and her. They had navy beans and ham. After lunch we went for a walk around the campground. While we were walking I met a man and his son. They had a dog so I introduced myself to it. The man wasn’t sure if the dog was going to be friendly or not. But the dog surprised him and was very friendly to me. Afterwards we went back to the Minnie and stayed inside for the rest of the day. Dad read magazines, mom worked on her book and I tried to sleep. I couldn’t sleep because there was a lot of activity going on so I just sat in mom’s sit and watched people walking and driving by.

Sunday January 11, 2009

We woke up at 7:00 am. Mom fed me and took me for a walk. When we returned from our morning walk mom had breakfast with dad. After breakfast we went on a hike for an hour. W hiked down to the Group Camping Area and the Day Use Area. When we hiked by the park host sites we saw a few deer. When they saw us they just looked at us. They didn’t seem to be afraid of us. I was busy exploring that I didn’t pay too much attention to them. When we got to the group area we walked around it. This is the first time that we could walk around it because usually there is a group of scouts using it. The group area doesn’t have electricity but it does have water. The restroom doesn’t have running water. As we were walking around the group area we saw a few deer. When I saw the deer I ran after them. I didn’t go too far because they were too far away. The group area is big and very nice. There is a trail at the group area that leads down to the river. We hiked the trail to the lookout area. The view was gorgeous of the hills and the river. Mom took pictures and than we headed back to the Minnie. On the way back at the camp host sites I met the camp hosts. They were excited to see me so they paid a lot of attention to me. I could stay there all day if I could but I couldn’t because we had to go home. When we got back mom and dad broke camp and we went home.

Friday January 16, 2009

We arrived at Buescher State Park at 4:00 p.m. We have been here many times and dad knew which site he wanted. When dad checked in at the park headquarters there was no problem getting a campsite. After mom and dad set up camp we went on an hour walk. We walked around the campground and part of the hiking trail. It was a very peaceful walk. There wasn’t anyone at the tent camping area when we walked through it and in Cozy Circle there were only three other campers besides us staying there. During the walk I did a lot of exploring. When we returned to the Minnie we ate dinner. Mom and dad had ham sandwiches and I had my special food. When dinner was over we stayed inside for the rest of the evening.

Saturday January 17, 2009

I woke mom and dad up about 7:00 am. Mom fed me my special food and than sat down and ate breakfast with dad. After breakfast we went on a 3 ½ hours hike for 8 ½ miles. We hiked the full hiking trail which is 7.7 miles. As we were walking to the hiking trail we met a few boy scouts getting water at one of the site in Cozy Circle. The boy scouts were staying at the tent camping area. The scouts had showed up Friday night when we were inside.

During the hike we saw a few deer, a few people hiking and a lady jogging. When I saw the deer I ran after them but they were too far away to catch. By the time I got to where they were they ran into the trees and disappeared. Even though I couldn’t catch them I still had fun. When we got to where there usually is a pond it was dry. This was the first time we ever saw the pond dry. When ever I saw people I had to introduce myself and they seemed like they didn’t mind at all. Along the trail we met a couple with two Boston Terriers (Abbie and Reilly). Reilly was very friendly but Abbie didn’t get along with other dogs. Reilly and I played while mom and dad visit with the couple. Reilly’s dad held Abbie to calm her down. After mom and dad finished visiting we continued our hike. On the way back to the campground we saw a lady jogging and a couple of men hiking and I said hi to all three. When I got back to where I saw the deer earlier I looked for them again but I couldn’t find them. We hiked through the tent camping area to get back to Cozy Circle and it was full of the boy scouts and tents. I had a great time hiking because I played, I did a lot of exploring, chased deer and met people and dogs. The hike was very cool because the trail runs through pine trees and the trail was soft on your feet. When we got back I was very tired so I went straight to my chair to rest.

After our rest we had lunch. Mom and dad had pork ribs and I had a snack. When we finished lunch we went back to our chairs to enjoy the campsite. While we were sitting there enjoying the beautiful weather we saw families playing, kids riding their electric cars, people walking around and people showing up to camp. It was very nice just sitting there relaxing.

Sunday January 18, 2009

I woke mom and dad up at 7:00 am. Mom fed me my special food and had breakfast with dad. After breakfast we hiked for an hour and half. We hiked to the Cancer Research Center and back. During the hike we met a man riding a bike and another man hiking. Both men I had to introduce myself and they said hi to me. We didn’t go too far because I was tired and we were going home. When we got back mom and dad broke camp. I had a great time at Buescher State Park now I have to say good-bye. Mom and dad have to go to work tomorrow so we could continue visiting the Texas State Parks and enjoying their hiking trails.

Friday January 23, 2009

We arrived at McKinney Falls State Park at 4:00 pm. Dad checked at the office we didn’t drive around the park this time because the lady in the office assigned us to a campsite. Mom and dad set up camp for the weekend. After they finished we went for a walk around the campground for about 30 minutes. When we got back to the campsite dad barbequed some beef ribs. Mom fed me my special food for dinner and mom and dad had beef rib wraps. After dinner we went for another 30 minutes walk because the weather was very nice. This time we walked to the falls. When we got to the falls we met a family of four. The little boy and little girl came over to us so they could pet me. While the kids pet me mom and dad visit with their parents. After the family left we walked a small trail to the Onion Creek Golf Course. Once we got the golf course we didn’t walk too far because it was starting to get dark. We walked along the golf course for about the length of a football field and than we turned around to head back to the campsite. As we were walking the golf course we saw a hog trap and that was cool. When we got back to the campsite we went inside for the rest of the evening.

Saturday January 24, 2009

I woke mom and dad up about 7:30 am. Mom fed me my special food while she got dressed. After I finished eating mom took me for my morning walk. When we got back mom sat down with dad for have breakfast. After breakfast we went for an 8 mile hike for 4 hours. We hiked the Homestead Trail and Onion Creek Trail.

We hiked the Homestead Trail first. The Homestead Trail is located on the other side of the falls. The Homestead Trail is a 4 mile loop that goes around the park. The trail is easy to hike and runs through trees. As we hiked the Homestead Trail we saw McKinney’s Family Homestead, the Horse Trainer’s Cabin and the McKinney’s Grist Mill. During this part of the hike dad let me off leash because the trail wasn’t busy with other hikers or bikers. This gave me the opportunity to do some exploring on my own. After hiking the whole trail we returned to the falls. As we walked around the falls we noticed that the water was very low in the falls because of the drought Texas is having. I didn’t care as long as I found a water puddle so I could get a drink and get my tired feet wet that was ok. While I was walking in the puddles I saw a white crane walking in a puddle so I chased it. That was fun. After I finished chasing it we continued our hike to the Trainer’s Cabin. When we got to the cabin we saw a herd of 10 deer. They ran right across the trail in front of us. This was fantastic to watch the deer run through the field into the trees. After watching them we cross the road to get to the Onion Creek Trail.

The Onion Creek Trail is a 3 mile loop trail that goes around the camping areas, day area and along Onion Creek. This trail is a paved trail and very nice to hike. As we were hiking this trail we saw a lot of people hiking, biking and jogging. I also met a few dogs. Every time we met someone I introduced myself. When I did this people said hi back to me. When we were hiking at the day area I saw a person walking behind us. As we continued hiking I kept looking back at him until dad finally gave up and stopped so he could catch up with us. When he did he pets me while mom and dad visit with him. This was one of my favorite parts of the hike. After he left we continued our hike. A little while later we stopped at a bench to rest. While we were rest I met a dog walking with his family. We both checked each other out. When mom and dad finished rest we went back to the campsite. Once we were there we went inside the Minnie because it was too cold to stay outside. The cold didn’t bother us while we were hiking because we hiked through the trees and the trees protected us from the wind. We stayed inside for the rest of the day. I was tired so I slept.

Sunday January 25, 2009

I woke up at 7:15 a.m. and woke mom and dad up. Mom and dad got out of bed and mom fed me my special food. After we all had breakfast we went for a hike. We hiked for about an hour. We hiked the Onion Creek Trail again. Today it wasn’t as busy as yesterday. So I could hike off leash. We saw a few people hiking and a few deer. As I was exploring I saw a few deer but they were too far away to chase so I just watched them in the trees. When we got back to the Minnie mom and dad broke camp. I really had a great time at McKinney Falls State Park but now it’s time to go home so I can get some rest before our next Adventure.
