We haven't been camping in a month, this weekend was going to be nice and warm so we decided to go to Muleshoe Bend Park. We have been here many times and the last time we were here was in March. I'm very excited to be going camping but I had to wait for mom to get home from work. While I waited I helped dad get the Minnie ready. Mom got home about 2:00 and the Minnie was almost ready she just had to put the coolers together. Mom changed her clothes and then she finished getting the Minnie ready. We arrived at Muleshoe Bend about 3:30, there was a new park host at the gate and he was very nice. He told us that he had only been there a few days. He warned us that on Sunday there was going to be 250 runners and they were going to be occupying part of the park. Dad thanked him and went to our favorite campsite. Dad parked the Minnie and we got out to set up camp for the weekend. It hasn't rained in along time so it was pretty dry and there were stickers all over the place. Everywhere I stepped I would get stickers in my feet and mom had to get them out. Dad thought maybe we would have to move some place else to camp but before leaving we decided to walk around the park. We walked around the park for about an hour. While we were walking I went swimming in the lake and I only got a couple of stickers so we decided to stay. When we got back to the Minnie, dad moved the Minnie to another spot in the campsite so I wouldn't get any stickers. After we finished getting set up mom fixed dinner. When we finished eating we went on another walk around the park we didn't go too far because it was starting to get dark.

We woke up about 7:00 and mom fed me my breakfast and than she sat down with dad and had breakfast with him. After we were all fed we went on a hike. We hiked for a couple of hours for 7.5 miles. We hiked the bike trail and along the main road. As we were hiking we only saw a couple of people riding their bikes on the trail. When we were walking back to the Minnie we saw some campers but we noticed that it wasn't as busy this visit as it was last visit. It was humid today so when we walked by the lake I didn't even go swimming because I was too tired. Once back at the campsite we went to our chairs and relaxed. We spent most of the day back at the campsite resting in our chairs. Mom and dad occasionally took me for a walk around the park. One time when we were walking we saw a lady paddling a board down the lake. When she got close to a campsite she got off the board and called for help. She didn't know she was at the wrong site until no one responded to her call. She was waiting a little while when a boy showed up on a bike to help her. Shortly after he was there another boy walked down to her to help. The boys picked up the board, carried it back to the right campsite and she walked to her chair to put on her shoes. This was fun to watch. When it started to get dark we went inside of the night.

We woke up about 7:30 and mom fed me my breakfast and than sat down with dad and had breakfast. After breakfast we went for a walk around the park. We walked along the lake and walked by where the runners were suppose to be. The host was right there was probably 250 runners, mom counted about 70 cars but we only saw a few runners. The race started at 6:00 and was going to stop at 12:00. We didn't walk too long because we didn't want to bother the runners. When we got back to the campsite we broke camp and headed back home. Dad wanted to leave before the runners finished their run. As we were leaving the park we passed some of the runners doing the course. They were running part of the bike trail and there were stations set up for the runners to get water. Today is more humid then yesterday so I was glad to see the runners taking advantage of the water stations. I had a great time at Muleshoe Bend Park.

Saturday November 6, 2010

We have been home from our Fall Trip for a couple of weeks and mom is going back to work Monday so we decided to go on a hike. We went hiking in Lakeway at Hamilton Greenbelt. It's been awhile since we've been hiking here. There are two entrances to the hiking trail, one is off Lohmans Crossing Drive and the other one is off Palos Verdes Drive. We started our hike at Palos Verdes Drive and hiked to Lohmans Crossing Drive and back. As we hiked the trails I had to stay on leash because this trail is always busy with people jogging, hiking and walking their dogs. Today was no exception to the rule we saw a few people and their dogs. We hiked through trees, up hills and across bridges. One bridge we crossed was Rainbow Bridge, this bridge is special because people believe when their dogs die they go there. As we were hiking we saw new trail signs. We hadn't hiked to the entrance at Lohmans Crossing in a long time so this was very exciting. As we hiked the trails we saw a few waterfalls that were made by the creeks that flow through the greenbelt. We hiked the trails for about an hour and had a great time.

When we work up this morning it was gorgeous so we decided to go back to Lakeway to do another hike. Today we hiked the Canyonlands Trails. We hiked for about an hour and as we hiked we saw one person. It was his first time here so he was confused on which way to go on the trail so he asked dad and dad told him which way to go. We started to hike the rim trail but it was closed for construction so we ended up doing the Lower Canyon Trail, Access Trail, Canyon Descent Trail and the new Trail. We hiked through trees, up and down hills, across bridges and climbed over rocks. The hike was very beautiful and peaceful. As we hiked we stopped once in awhile to enjoy the scenery. We had a fantastic time hiking the Canyonlands Trails.

Today is Thanksgiving and Aunt Louise thought she was going to have to work so she wasn't going to be here but she surprised us by showing up. We didn't mind because we had plenty of food. Every year mom cooks a Thanksgiving dinner. Mom makes homemade noodles the night before for the occasion. I like Thanksgiving because I get a lot of turkey and bones. Mom makes a turkey, mash potatoes and gravy, dressing, deviled eggs and relish tray. For dessert mom brought an apple pie. Mom always prepares a great dinner
