Dad wanted to go camping and he tried to make reservations at one of the state parks but they were booked until November. He decided to try to get into a Corp of Engineer Lake but their Website was down for maintenance. So he called Lake Georgetown directly and he was told there were openings at Jim Hogg Park and Cedar Breaks. Dad was surprised because most of the Corp of Engineer Lakes around our house was closed due to the flood. The person on the phone with him told him that at Jim Hogg Park the lower loop was still closed and the picnic area of Cedar Breaks Park was still closed. He also told dad that they were trying to get the two parks cleaned up and fixed up so they could open the parks for camping. This is exciting we’re going on our second camping trip since school began. I always have a lot of fun at Jim Hogg Park and it's close to my house. The hiking trail goes around the lake and is very long. The last few times I’ve been on the hiking trail at Jim Hogg I’ve had the opportunity to play with my friend April I hope I will see her on this trip.

We arrived at Jim Hogg Park about Dad asked the park hosts if there were any opening and they said yes. While my dad and the hosts were talking, they said I reminded them of the white lab they use to have. Dad drove around the campground to find the space we liked we found #126. Then he drove back to the gate, told the hosts which space we decided to take and checked in. When we got back to our space my parents’ setup camp and I did some exploring around the campsite. After my parents finished we went for a walk before dinner. The lower loop of the campground was closed due to the flood so walked around the loop to look at the lake and to see what kind of damage the flood did. My dad let me walk off leash around the loop because no one was there. We just saw a little damage and you can see how high the water got. We noticed that the oak trees were getting some green leaves but the cedar trees look like they may not survive all the water. The ramadas needed some work mainly on the roofs but over all there wasn’t a lot of damage. While we were walking around the loop I saw the lake and couldn’t resist it so I went for a swim. I was one happy dog to be able to go swimming. After my swim we headed back to the campsite on the way there I met a dog named Stella I thought maybe we could be friends but her dad said she didn’t like other dogs. Oh well now it’s time to have dinner. I ate my special food and my parents shared a club sandwich for dinner. When I finished my dinner I went next door to introduce myself to our new neighbors. Dad had to come and get me. Our neighbors had three dogs a Britney Spaniel and two Golden Retrievers. We checked each other out as my parents visit with the neighbors parents. When we finished our visit, my parents took me for another walk to the lower loop. On the way to the loop I saw some deer I wanted to run after them but I couldn’t they were too far a way and I was on leash. We walked around the loop and then we returned to our site. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside to enjoy the peace and quiet. About we went for a third walk this time it was around our loop more people had shown up. We saw families playing games and having dinner. When we returned to the site we went inside to go to bed so we can get up early in the morning to go on a hike.

Saturday October 13, 2007

I woke up about 7:00 a.m. and waited for my parents to get out of bed. They got out of bed about 7:15 and we had breakfast. My parents had a banana and I had my special food. Dad took me for a walk while mom got ready to go hiking. When dad and I returned mom was ready. Our hike was 4 miles long and took us 3 hours. The hike was very pleasant because there was a breeze coming through the trees along the hiking trail. At the beginning of our hike I saw my friend April hiking with her dad. I was so excited I ran to them to play with her. Dad called me back because he didn’t know it was April. After he learned that I go to April it was ok. I played with April while my parents visit with her dad. I was glad April was hiking on the same trail and going the same direction as we were that way I had a friend to play with. I wanted to hike with April and her dad but dad thought I would be a pest so he told me to stay with him and mom. Dad let April and her dad get down the trail a ways and than we continued our hike. We hiked to a rock ledge that looked over the lake and decided to rest. While we were resting we saw a couple of kayakers on the lake. After our rest we hiked to a creek. There was a small waterfall that feeds the creek from above. We had to cross the creek I took a shortcut I walked right though the water and my parents had to walk over some rocks. When we crossed the creek we hiked up a hill to a clearing, where dad and I saw a deer with a big rack. Mom didn’t see it because she was busy taking pictures.  We hiked a little farther and decided to turn around to go back to the campground. We hiked about 2 miles when we turned around. We were starting to get tired and we knew we had to go back. In the clearing where dad and I saw the deer we saw a few more. I decided to run after them I didn’t run to far because they ran through the trees and they were too far away for me to catch them. Mom saw the deer this time there was about three of them. When we got back to the creek we hiked along the banks so mom could take pictures. Right before we reached the rock ledge we met another friend I had met before his name is Thumper and his is a Boston Terrier. I was happy to see him and we played a little bit. When my parents and I reach the rock ledge I was ready to rest. I sat right next to dad on the ledge and mom took our picture. After we finished resting we finish our hike. We hiked along the fence line to get back to our campsite. Along the fence line we saw a four wheeler with a trailer on the back it was amazing because it was parked between two trees in the woods. We wondered how the person could park it the way they did. When we got back to the campground I was exhausted so the just laid on the ground. My parents sat in their chairs until it was time for lunch.

My parents had hamburgers for lunch and had chicken. After lunch we just hung around the campsite because we were tired even though we just hiked 4 miles. In the afternoon we stayed at the campsite. Dad read the paper, mom took pictures and I enjoyed the sun. It was very comfortable just sitting around the campsite because there was a breeze to keep it cool. We didn't leave the campsite the rest of day because I was too tired to move.

Sunday October 14, 2007

I woke my parents up about 7:15a.m. We had breakfast and then we went for a walk we didn’t walk too far because I was still tired. My parents decided to hike to the lower loop for our final hike this trip. At the beginning of our hike we walked through our campground where I met a new friend, she was as friendly as I am so that was cool. I’m not sure what type of dog she is but she is very cute and has a lot of energy. After I played with her awhile we said good-bye. When we reached the lower loop dad let me off leash and I did some exploring. I also met another friend and his dad. The dog’s named was Buddy and he was a Yellow Lab. Buddy is four years old just like me and  he likes the water like me. His dad was happy to see me because now Buddy has a playmate. Buddy’s dad threw a toy in the lake so Buddy could retrieve it. When ever Buddy would go in the water I would follow him. I had a great time playing with him. We checked each other out and we chased each other. Than it was time to say good-bye because Buddy had to go home and I had to get back to the campsite to get ready to go home. When we returned to the campsite we rested a little and than we broke camp. I was so tired that I slept all the way home.

Friday October 19, 2007

We had a great time last weekend at Jim Hogg Park we decided to come back. We arrived at Jim Hogg Park about Dad asked the park host if space number 126 was available and he said that it was taken. So dad had to drive around to find another space there was no problem finding one. We put the occupant sign on space #130. Then he drove back to the gate, told the hosts which space we decided to take and checked in. While dad was checking in I decided I couldn’t wait for him so mom walked me to dad. My parents and the camp hosts talked awhile. When we got back to our space my parents’ setup camp and I did some exploring around the campsite. After my parents finished it was hot so we sat on our chairs and waited for it to cool off a little. We ate dinner dad barbequed hamburgers for dad and her and fed me my special food. After dinner we went for a walk to the lower loop so I could go swimming. The water felt so good because I was really hot. When I finished my swim it was starting to get dark so we headed back to our campsite. When we returned to the site we sat in our chairs until about 8:00 p.m. We went inside of the Minnie to rest before going to bed for the night. Mom worked on her word book, dad read and I just slept. I wanted to get prepared for our hike in the morning.

Saturday October 20, 2007

My parents woke up at 7:15 a.m. and I was sitting there waiting for them. I was excited it’s time to go for a hike. My dad took me for a walk and than my parents and I had breakfast. After breakfast we started our hike. We hiked for 5 ½ hours for about 8 miles. We hiked the same trail as we did last week but each time you hike the trail it’s exciting and a little different. At the beginning of the hike we saw the four-wheeler and trailer. This time there was a bigger trailer full of stumped it looks like the park people are clear a path along the fence line of the park. The pathway is wide enough for a vehicle to go down it. We hiked the fence line for awhile until we cross the main road to the park. We crossed the road and head down the trail. A little ways down the trail I met April and her dad. I was so excited I ran around April to get her to play with me I usually don’t do this so April wasn’t sure what to do. She looked at me like I was crazy but eventually she gave in and played while her dad and my parents visit. After she left to finish her hike we continued ours. We were about a mile when we saw a few deer in front of us on the trail when I saw them I started to run after them. The deer ran down the side of the hill so I turned around and ran back to my parents. We took a little short cut from our normal hike and missed the rock wall where we usually rested. Before we got to the creek with the waterfall we saw a couple of guys climbing up the hill to their house, while they were climbing up the hill they scared a couple of deer out of the trees. The deer snored and ran down the hill away from the men. When they snored I wasn’t sure what that noise was so I looked to see what the noise was when I saw the deer running. We saw a few more deer in the clearing on the other side of the creek with the waterfall they were too far a way to chase so I just looked at them. We reached the place, we turned around at last week but this week we decided to rest and then continue on our way. We hiked another 2 miles before turning around. Our goal today was to see if we could hike all the way to Russell Park. We had hiked 4 miles and we tired. My parents found a tree stump to sit on to rest. I saw a creek and as soon as I saw the creek I was gone I was thirsty and my feet were tired. My parents were watching me because they didn’t want me to get lost in the trees. Oh boy did the creek fill good on my feet. My parents called me back because it time to hike back to our camping space. We were going to continue towards Russell Park but we weren’t sure how far it so we turned around and headed back. We were about a ½ from where we rested when we saw a couple of mountain bikers. They said hi and one of the biker pet me on the head and mom asked him how far was Russell Park from here and he said about 1 ½ miles. We were so close but too tired to go there. We knew we had to return to the campground so we continued back. On the way back we didn’t see any deer but it was still a great hike. We saw some boats on Lake Georgetown and there was a little breeze coming through the trees. When we got back to the road we saw a few cars parked on the side of the road. I was happy to be at the road because now I knew we were almost back. When we got back to the four-wheeler we hiked through the tree to get back to our site. I was so glad to be back now I can sleep for the rest of the day.

In the afternoon we sat around the campsite because we were very tired after our hike. While we were sitting in our chair Stella came by with her mom and dad. I wanted to play with her but her dad had to reminded me that Stella didn’t like other dogs. They continued their walk around the campground and went back to my chair to sleep. Mom and dad were so tired that mom just made sandwiches for lunch. I had some chicken. After lunch we went in the Minnie to take a nap. When we woke from our nap we went for a walk around the campground. We didn’t go too far because I was tired and didn’t walk too fast in fact I walked very slowly. During our walk I met a couple of dogs, they were at their campsite with their parents and six girls. The girls were playing volleyball. I liked watching them but I really wanted to play with the dogs. The other dogs wanted to play with me too, but we couldn’t because our parents wouldn’t let us. We just whined for each other and than my parents and I went back to the campsite to have dinner. My parents had chile for dinner and I had my special food.

After dinner we relaxed at the campsite. During this time mom decided to do a little dishes. While she was doing dishes one of the neighbors came by walking three Cocker Spaniels. He stopped and talked to mom awhile. He told mom he was from a Cocker Spaniel Rescue Group. He also said that he had eight Cocker Spaniels with him and his friend here at Jim Hogg. Can you imagine eight dogs and two people in one trailer? Mom and dad think that having me is enough. After he left we sat outside until about 7:00 p.m. and than we went inside. Dad read and mom did some crossword puzzles while I slept. We all went to bed about 10:00 p.m.

Sunday October 21, 2007

We woke up at 7:15 a.m. and had some breakfast. After breakfast we went for a walk to the lower loop. We saw a few kids riding their bikes and a man walking around the loop. I went for a swim while my parents sat at a picnic table and looked at the lake. I didn’t swim too long because I was still tired from yesterday so I decided to join my parents. We sat at the table and enjoyed looking at the lake. We saw some fishermen fishing. After awhile we went back to the campsite so we could get ready to go home. On the way home we stopped at Russell Park and hiked part of the hiking trail. We hiked only for where we had stopped the day before and found out we weren’t that far away from Russell Park. We only had to hike another 6 minutes and would have been at the park. While we were hiking we saw a few mountain bikers I was so tired I didn’t if react to them. I always react to people or other dogs so you know I was tired when I didn’t. When we got back to the Minnie I went to sleep and didn’t wake up until we got home.

This weekend my parents told me we’re going to Muleshoe Bend Park for our camping trip, it will be our second camping trip to Muleshoe this year. The last time we were here was in the spring, the lake was very low now the lake is full. It will be interesting to see how close the lake will be to the campgrounds. I’m ready to go camping so let’s go.

Friday October 26, 2007

We arrived at Muleshoe Bend about 4:00 p.m. The park hosts were gone so you had to pay by putting your money in an envelope. It cost you $5.00 a night and if you’re just going to use the trails it is $3.00 per rider. We drove around and found the same campsite that we had last time. Lake Travis is full right now so you only have to walk about 100 feet away, this is cool I don’t have to go too far to go swimming. Dad parked the Minnie, mom set up our chairs and I went exploring around the campground. After we were settled in I went for a swim in the lake, this was very refreshing. When I finished my swim we went for a short walk. During our walk we met a man flying a radio control electric plane. We watched the plane for awhile and visit with the man flying it. He said he had a few of the planes and liked flying the electric plane better than the gas because it’s cheaper and cleaner. I liked watching the airplane because it’s was in the sky. I can watch things in the sky all day because it’s very fascinating to me. If I see something in the sky that doesn’t belong there I bark at it and sometimes this gets me in trouble. After our visit we walked about ¼ mile longer and turned around to head back to the Minnie for dinner. For dinner my parents had pancakes and I had my special food.

When dinner was over we went for another walk. We walked about a mile roundtrip. During our walk we saw a couple in canoe fishing, we saw a few deer in the trees and mom took some pictures. Dad was trying to found a trail we usually took by the lake but he couldn’t find it because the lake was up. It was starting to get dark so we turn around and head back to our campsite. It was a nice walk but you had to be careful not to step on stickers. When we returned to the campsite we sat on our chairs and looked at the lake. While we were relaxing we saw a few deer walking down to the lake for a drink. We watched the deer until to start to get a little chilly, and then we went inside for the rest of the night. The moon was so big and beautiful shining off the lake, mom had to go outside to take pictures of it. We went to bed about 10:00 p.m. so we could be rested for our hike in the morning.

Saturday October 27, 2007

I woke my parents up about 7:00 a.m. so we could have breakfast before our hike. After breakfast we went on our hike, we hiked the 7 ½ miles. We had to hike ½ mile on the road in order to get to the 6 ½ mile trail. The 6 ½ mile trail is a loop trail where the mountain bikers’ rider clockwise and the hikers hike counter clockwise so there won’t be any accidents. It’s a beautiful trail that goes up and down hills through the trees. The trail was easier than Jim Hogg’s trail because it had fewer rocks and the hills weren’t as steep. During our hike we saw some deer and I chased a couple of them. A few bikers passed us on the trail. We hiked 4 miles of the trail when we reached the entrance of the park where there is a parking lot and a picnic table so we decided to rest. While we were resting a few more bikers showed up and dad talked to them awhile. He asked them how long it takes them to do the whole loop and they said it takes them between 35 minutes and 45 minutes. One of the bikers talked to me and I liked that very much. Now it’s time to continue our hike. The last 2 ½ miles was great we walked through some creeks and we saw some more bikers. Dad saw a big spider in it’s’ web so he took a picture of it. That was so cool. When we got back to the campsite we were tired so rested a little before lunch. For lunch my parents had hamburgers and I had a snack.

After lunch we sat on our chairs because we were too tired to go on another hike. About an hour later mom took me to the lake and I went for a swim. I didn’t swim to long because I was too tired. When mom and I got back to dad I decided to do a little sunning. While I was sunning a big buzzer flew over me and landed about 50 feet away from me. My parents told me that he thought I was dead but I knew better than that. I woke up and scared him away. We stayed at our campsite for the rest of the day. After dinner we saw a few deer behind our campsite. One of the deer had a big rack and he was beautiful. I didn’t chase after them because they were too far away and I was too tired to even try to. When the sun started to go down we went inside.

Sunday October 28, 2007

I woke my parents up at 7:00 a.m. because I had to go out. Mom took me for a little walk, while dad got dressed. When mom and I returned to the Minnie we all had breakfast. After breakfast my parents and I went for a hike. We hiked about 4 ½ miles. We hiked along the road until we got to the main entrance of Muleshoe Bend Park which is about 1 mile. When we got to the entrance we met one of the bikers we saw the day before, my parents visit with him and I went exploring around the picnic table. After my parents’ visit we hiked 2 ½ miles of the trail we did yesterday. We saw some more deer and I chased a couple of the deer up a hill, which was fun. I ran back to my parents to finish our hike. During the rest of the hike we saw a lot of bikers and a couple of joggers. When we returned to the campsite we rested on our chairs until to was time to break camp and head back home.
