Monday October 1, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:45. Dad crawled out of bed and got dressed. Afterwards he fed me my breakfast and then he started to make oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. Mom crawled out of bed a few minutes after dad did. She wasn't in any hurry because we're going to go visit friends (Jim and Norma)for lunch at 12:30. After everyone was fed we went on a walk around the park. As we were walking we saw people and dogs starting to move around. There were four black labs that stand out because they were so well behaved. They were all in the same family. They didn't bark and they sat while their dad got their breakfast ready. When we finished our walk mom got the Minnie ready to leave. We left Boyd Lake at 8:00. Jim and Norma live in Fredrick, which is 30 miles from Loveland. We had a few hours to kill so we stopped at a few places and shopped. The first place we stopped at was a Wal-Mart, where we picked up a few things. Then we stopped at Lowe's for batteries and Lithium grease. The last place we stopped at was Camping World, where we bought a new tire cover and a couple of bumper caps. After shopping we still had a little time to kill so dad pulled into a parking lot and got an Internet connection. He checked his e-mail and mom updated my website. After mom finished updating my website it was time to go to Jim's and Norma's house. While mom and dad went inside to visit I stayed in the Minnie. But before they left mom gave me a milk bone. Mom and dad were gone a couple of hours. During their visit they met one of Jim's and Norma's Granddaughter and her daughter. Norma made enchiladas, cornbread and a salad for lunch. For dessert Norma had baked a cherry pie. Mom and dad had a great visit and the food was delicious. Before we left the little girl came out to say hi to me. The whole time mom and dad were gone I sat in mom's chair and watched them in the house because the front door was open. So when everyone came out to say hi I was excited to see them. This made my day. After everyone said hi mom and dad thanked them for lunch and then said good bye. After leaving we drove to Rocky Mountain National Park, which was about 40 miles away. We arrived in the park at 4:15. When we got to the campground the man at the gate told us to go ahead and drive around loop B and find a site. If we had any problems founding a site to come back and he would find us a site. Loop B is the only loop that is first come first serve and the rest of the loops were for reservations. There were only a couple left for RVs and we found a site that would do for a couple of nights. By the time we found the site it was about 4:30 and the Visitor Center closes at 5:00. Dad wanted to go to the Visitor Center to get information on hiking and the shuttle service. So we put my chair to let people know that the site was taken and we drove to the Visitor Center. On the way we stopped at the pay station and paid for 2 nights. After getting some information we came back. Mom fed me my dinner. Mom and dad wanted to wait to have dinner because they were still full from lunch. After I had my dinner we went for a walk around the campground. As we were walking we saw a few deer and heard elk bugling. As we walked we said hi to a lot of people and saw a lot of dogs. When we got back dad put in the Minnie and then mom and dad went to watch a herd of elk in a meadow on the main road. Because we're in a National Park I'm not allowed to walk on the trails and the only place I'm allowed to walk in were the campground. If I had gone with them I would being breaking the rules but that was ok because I could sleep while they were gone. They were gone about a half hour. They watched the elk in the meadow the bull was herding his heirum through the meadow and he was bugling every chance he got. After the elk moved on mom and dad came back to me. When they got back mom made sandwiches for their dinner. As mom and dad were sitting down eating mom saw a few elk walk through the campground. Dad tried to take pictures but they didn't come out because it was starting to get dark. We stayed inside for the rest of night. We had a fantastic day and we're tired so I will say good night. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!

SEVENTH WEEK OCTOBER 2 - OCTOBER 8

Bear Lake                                                                            Bierstadt Lake

Tuesday October 2, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:30 dad crawled out of bed and fed me my breakfast. Afterwards he got dressed and was going to fix some oatmeal but wasn't sure when mom was getting up. She told him to go ahead and make the oatmeal she was going to get up so he did. When the oatmeal was ready mom crawled out of bed and got dressed. When everyone was finished getting dressed and fed we went on a walk around the campground. After our walk dad put me inside the Minnie because mom and he were going to go on a hike. They walked down to the shuttle bus stop, which was just down the road from our site. Mom and dad figured it would be a lot easier taking the shuttle than driving. The shuttle bus they took from the campground it took them to the Visitor Center where they caught another one that took them up the mountain to Bear Lake hiking trail. On the way to the Visitor Center the shuttle route took them up the road to another hiking trail, where they saw a big bull elk and his heirum. There were a lot of people taking pictures of the elk. Some of the people were pretty dumb because they were way too close to the elk. The shuttle driver was very nice and stopped so dad could take a nice picture of the bull. When they got to the Visitor Center they had to wait for the shuttle bus up the mountain. There was some road construction so there made be some delays up the mountain. On the way up the mountain there was a little delay but it wasn't too long. When mom and dad got to Bear Lake there were a lot of people there. They were all getting ready to go hiking. Actually Bear Lake was very close you only had to hike .2 mile to get to it. Bear Lake was a beautiful mountain lake and it was full. After they took pictures they continued their hike. They hiked up to Bierstadt Lake, which was 2.1 miles from Bear Lake. When they were at Bear Lake they were at 9475 feet but the climbed up to 9781 feet before they started to go down. The trail was very nice and well maintained even though there were a lot of rocks. They hiked through gorgeous pine trees and aspen trees. Mom had a little trouble because of the hiking was so high but she hung in there and pushed on. As they were hiking they saw a few people hiking and a couple who were trail runners. When they got to Bierstadt Lake mom and dad rested and took pictures of the lake. Bierstadt Lake was bigger then Bear Lake but it was more open. Both lakes were gorgeous with the mountain scenery around them. After resting they hiked down to the park and ride parking area to catch the shuttle. They were glad they started at Bear Lake because most of their hike was down hill. By the time they had gotten to the park and ride lot they had hiked 4 miles. When they got to the park and ride lot they had to wait for about a half hour. They didn't care because they weren't in any hurry. While they waited they talked to a painter. The shuttle that took them back to the Visitor Center was an old school bus. The driver was very nice. But it took the shuttle an hour to get down the mountain because of the road construction. The shuttle bus driver that took them to the Visitor Center earlier was the same one that took them back to the campground. When they were walking back to me they found a campsite that was a lot better than the one we had so we moved. They finally came back to me about 12:30 and they were tired. But they still took time to say hi to me. After they rested a little mom and dad had ham pitas for lunch and mom gave me a pork bone for a snack. After lunch mom and I went outside so I got sun. We weren't out long because mom wanted to take a nap. After everyone took a nap we went outside to watch the wildlife. We saw a few deer and a lot of elk. When dinnertime came around dad barbecued some pork steaks up. Mom fed me my food. After everyone finished dinner mom and dad walked over to catch the shuttle bus so they could go see some more elk. They didn't have to get on the shuttle there was a big heirum at the shuttle bus stop. A lot of people were there taking pictures and dad took some pictures. The bull had about 25 cows and calves. He did a great job keeping them together. Another big bull came by and he chased him away. The elk wanted to cross the road to get to the meadow but there were too many people so the bull just kept his heirum there and waited. They watched the elk for about a half hour and then came back to me. When they got back they took me for a little walk around the campground. When we got back mom baked cookies. We stayed inside and watched the elk across the road until it got too dark to see them. Then we called it a night.

Wednesday October 3, 2012

Today we woke up a little earlier, which was 6:15. Dad fed me my breakfast and then got dressed. While dad was making oatmeal mom decided to crawl out of bed. We didn't have the heater on last night because it didn't get too cold it only got down to 58. After everyone ate breakfast we went on a walk around the campground. When we got back mom and dad walked down to catch the shuttle bus so they could go hiking again. Today they're going to hike to Cub Lake, which if they wanted to they could walk to the trailhead from the campground but they decided to take the shuttle. Today the driver was a lady and she was very friendly. They didn't go to the trailhead first they had to go to the Visitor Center and then come back to the campground. Mom and dad didn't care. While going to the trailhead they saw elk and the driver slowed down so they could see them better. She was looking for a couple of bulls she has been keeping an eye on. The hike to Cub Lake was 2.5 miles but round trip it was 5 miles. The trail went up 540 feet most of it was the last 1/2 mile. They started their hike by taking a bridge over Cub Creek. The trail was very nice it went through pine trees and aspen trees, along side the mountain and by meadows and ponds. At the beginning of their hike they only saw one couple but at the end they saw a lot of people. About .25 mile into the hike they saw elk in a meadow and on the way back they saw them laying down in the same meadow. Mom didn't have any problems today but they did stop more so they could rest and look at the scenery. The trail was narrow at places and they had to climb over rocks. They said the hike was well worth doing because Cub Lake was very nice. It wasn't as pretty as Bear Lake or Bierstadt Lake because it had a lot of lilly pads in it. Once they were at the lake they sat on a rock and rested. While they were resting we ate a granola bar. As soon as they started to eat the granola bar four ducks came by. Mom knows she's not suppose to feed the animals but she did feed the ducks. A couple of the ducks were didn't want an older duck to have anything to eat so they chased him away. But mom and dad felt sorry for him so they fed him but everytime he got a piece of the granola the other two would go after him. While they were feeding the ducks a couple of chipmonks came on the rock to get some of the granola bar. So mom and dad gave them a little. Mom and dad had a great time feeding the animals. After they were all rested they headed back to the trailhead to catch the shuttle bus. There were two ways to go back one way was about a mile longer so mom and dad decided to go back the same way they came up. On the way back the hike was a lot easier because it was down hill. They stopped occasionally to let other hikers go by. They also rested on a rock to watch the elk heirum in the meadow. When they got to the bus stop they had to wait a little while for the bus. While they were waiting they visited with a lady from Kansas. She was from the same city that dad was raised in he was a kid. When the shuttle showed up they said good bye to the lady and went on the bus. They got back to me at 11:30, which was a lot earlier than yesterday. I still talked to them about leaving me all alone. After we finished saying our hellos mom took me on a walk before she made lunch. Mom and dad had pitas for lunch and mom gave me a bone for my snack. After lunch mom and dad laid down for awhile. Mom stayed in bed for another hour while dad and I went outside to watch the elk in the meadow. Our campsite is perfect because we have a great view of the meadow where the elk hang out at. Mom came out a little later. While we were outside we saw deer, elk and three people riding on horses. The wildlife entertained us all afternoon. When dinnertime came around mom made spaghetti for dad and her. Mom fed me my food. After dinner mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. As we were walking a few people stopped and said hi to us. We had a nice walk. When we got back to the Minnie mom baked cookies. We stayed inside and watched the elk from the window for the rest of the night.

Field Trip to Rocky Mountain National Park                         A bull elk watching over his heirum

Thursday October 4, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:30. It's going to be old today so mom and dad are going to take the shuttle to Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and then to Estes. Dad crawled out of bed and fed me my breakfast. Then mom crawled out of bed and made pancakes for dad and her breakfast. After everyone was fed we went on a walk. We walked around the campground and then dad put me back into the Minnie. Mom and dad walked down to the shuttle stop. They kept the driver company through the Moraine Park routine. When they got to Moraine Visitor Center they had to wait a few minutes for the shuttle that went to Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and to town. As they were waiting they saw a group of kids and adults on the hill listening to a ranger talking. Mom and dad thought this was cool that the kids were on a field trip to the park. When they got to Beaver Meadows Visitor Center they went inside. They had got there just in time to watch a movie about Rocky Mountain National Park, which was 23 minutes long. The visitor center wasn't that big so it didn't take them long to walk through it. They were a little disappointed because it didn't have any displays and the gift shop was small but they did buy some post cards. After the movie they had to wait for the bus to go to Estes. They waited inside the visitor center because it was too cold outside. When the bus came they rode it to town and got off at the visitor center there. It was a beautiful building but once again it didn't have any displays. Dad used the Internet just to browse. They were going to walk around town but mom thought it was too cold so they waited for the bus back to Moraine Park. They got back to me about 12:00 in time for lunch. When they got back I was very excited to see them and after we said our hellos mom took me for a walk. When we got back dad cooked up some stew for mom and his lunch. Mom gave me a bone for my snack. After lunch we stayed inside because it was too cold to go outside. I wanted to go outside so mom put me on a chain but I didn't stay outside too long because I don't like bring by myself. Mom and dad usually sit outside with me but today it was too cold. While we were inside mom and dad read and I slept. Occasionally mom and dad would watch the elk in the meadow across the road from our site. In order for them to see the elk they had to use binoculars. When dinnertime came around mom made Mexican Lasagna because it's easy to make and is hot. After dinner mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. As we walked around  few people stopped and said hi to us and we stopped by the entrance gate to look at the weather report. It's suppose to snow and be cold for a few days so dad decided we would leave tomorrow and go some place warmer. When we got back to the Minnie mom baked cookies and then we called it a night.

Snow on the Minnie                                                              The deer I barked at

Friday October 5, 2012

Today we woke up at 7:45 and there was snow on the ground. Oh, how cool !!! Mom and dad crawled out of bed and got dressed. Dad fed me my food and made oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. After everyone was fed we walked around the campground and mom took pictures of the snow. As we were walking around we saw a few deer. We were walking by the entrance gate and a deer decided to walk out right in front of us I was surprise to see it so close so I barked at it. The deer ran off because I scared them. When we walked by the gate the weather forecast said that it was going to snow again tonight. There was a sign in the window that said the road to the other side of the mountain was closed so even if we wanted to stay we couldn't get to the other campground. We also talked to the guy in the booth and he said he was surprise to wake up to snow. On the way back to the Minnie we met a couple from Australia and we visited with them for a little while. When we got back to the Minnie mom and dad finished getting the Minnie ready to move on. We didn't leave Moraine Park until 10:00 because dad wanted to wait for the road to dry and for it to get a little warmer. We weren't any hurry because we going back to Boyd Lake State Park and it's about 45 miles from here. The drive to Boyd Lake was through a beautiful canyon. We saw a few fly fishermen in the stream that ran through the canyon. Before we went to Boyd Lake we stopped at Wal-Mart in Loveland to do a little shopping. While mom and dad we shopping they picked up a chicken for lunch. We arrived at Boyd Lake at 12:00 and we checked in. The girl that checked us in assigned us the same site we had a few days ago. One we found the site and set up the Minnie for a couple of nights mom made lunch. I really like chicken so when mom was preparing lunch I pestered her for a little chicken so she gave me a little. We have power so mom could heat up the chicken before serving it for lunch. Also dad plugged in the electric heater so we can keep warm. After everyone was fed mom took me for a little walk. When we got back mom and dad read a little and then they took a nap. While mom was still napping dad took me for a walk. When we got back mom was waiting for us. We stayed in the Minnie all afternoon because it was too cold to sit outside. When it was time of dinner mom heated up leftovers and cut up a potato. For dinner mom and dad had potatoes and gravy and a pancake. Mom fed me my food for my dinner. After dinner mom and dad read a little and then mom took a shower. When she got back she took me for my last walk of the night. When we got back mom baked cookies for desert. After dad ate a couple of cookies he went over to the restroom to take a shower. When he got back we called it a night.

Saturday October 6, 2012

Today we woke up 6:45. Mom and dad didn't really want to get out of bed because it was cold it got down to 30 degrees. It's not going to get much warmer so we're not going to do anything today but keep warm. We have electricity so it wasn't a problem. Dad finally crawled out of bed at 7 and got dressed. Afterwards he fed me my breakfast and made oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. Mom crawled out of bed at 7:15 when breakfast was ready. After everyone was fed we went on a walk around the park. We walked around until mom and dad got cold. When we got back to the Minnie we stayed inside all day and kept warm. Mom worked on her Sudoku and read a book. Dad read a book and watched the snow. Yes, it snowed today but it didn't stay because the ground was too warm. While it was snowing mom took me for a walk. Before she did this she bundled up in her Winter jacket so she could stay warm. I like the cold but I didn't like it when the snow got on me because it got me wet. We didn't walk long because mom was getting cold. When it was time for lunch mom microwaved some soup for dad and her. She gave me a bone for my snack. After lunch mom and dad went back to their reading and I went back to my sleeping. Dad closed off the cab and kitchen parts of the Minnie so the heater won't need to work so hard to keep us warm. Like I said earlier I like the cold so when I slept I went up in mom's chair of the cab and slept. Mom did take me out for a couple of walks during the afternoon. When it was time for dinner mom cut up leftover chicken and pork and made wraps for dad and her dinner. She gave me a little chicken and pork while she was making dinner. When dinner was finished being prepared mom fed me my food. Afterwards she sat down with dad and ate dinner with him. After dinner mom baked cookies and then she took me for my last walk of the day. When we got back to dad we called it a night. It's suppose to be cold again tonight so I'm going to wrap up in my towels on my bed and keep warm. Good night!!!!!

Sunday October 7, 2012

We woke up at 6:30. We're not going to leave Boyd Lake until about 12:00 so no one was in any hurry to get out of bed. It got down to 27 last night and tonight it's suppose to get down to the 30s. So mom and dad decided we're going to spend the night in Loveland Mal-Mart. Dad crawled out of bed  about 6:40 and got dressed. After he finished get dressed he fed me my breakfast and started to make oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. When the oatmeal was ready mom crawled out of bed and got dressed. Afterwards she sat down with dad and had breakfast. When we finished breakfast we went for a walk. We walked around the campground. As we were walking the sun was shining and the wind was down so it felt a lot warmer today than yesterday. When we got back mom and dad straighten up the Minnie a little and then they read. About 10:00 mom went over to the restroom and took a shower. While mom was gone dad swept out the Minnie and wiped the windows down because they had moister on them. When mom got back dad went over and took a shower. While dad was gone mom and I stayed outside so I could do a little sunning. Mom stayed outside with me because it was warmer today. When dad got back we all went inside and relaxed. At 11:30 we decided to leave Boyd Lake but before we left dad dumped the tanks. Afterwards we went into town and parked at a lot right by a McDonald so dad could check his e-mail and the weather. While he was doing that mom worked on her Sudoku. When dad finished mom updated my website. After they finished using the Internet they walked off to McDonald and bought a couple of ice cream cones. When they got back mom took me for a walk. When we got back mom and dad read until 5:00 and then we moved to Wal-Mart parking lot. After setting up the Minnie for the night mom and dad made salami sandwiches for their dinner and mom fed me my food. After dinner mom and dad went into Wal-Mart and picked up a few things. While they were gone I got into my milk bones and got a couple of them. So when mom and dad got back I was still eating them and mom scolded me for getting in the bones. She told me that I could only have a bone if she gave it to me. I'm not sure how many I had but mom thinks I probably only had a couple. After mom scolded me she took me out for my last walk of the day. We didn't go too far because there was grass right where we were parked. When we got back to the Minnie we called it a night. Good night everyone.

Monday October 8, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:00. Dad crawled out of bed and got dressed. After he got dressed he fed me my breakfast and then made oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. When the oatmeal was done mom crawled out of bed and got dressed. Then she sat down and had breakfast with dad. We woke up early because the traffic woke us up. It was nosy because of the traffic but we still had a good night sleep. After everyone was fed we went for a little walk around the parking lot. When we got back dad put me in the Minnie. Then mom and dad went to Wal-Mart and picked up a couple of things they forgot last night. When they got back we started our adventure back to Rocky Mountain National Park. We had only seen half the park so today we're going to drive through the rest. We didn't drive through the other day because the road was closed because of snow but now it's open. The drive back to Estes was through a gorgeous canyon. We drove through this canyon the other day but it looks different go through it the opposite direction. While driving through the canyon we saw a very nice creek. Some places in the canyon we saw water coming down the wall, which made it look like little waterfalls. There were signs through out the canyon that said watch for big horn sheep so we looked up the canyon wall to look for them. We actually didn't have to look on top of the mountain because we saw a small herd of six on the side of the road. We couldn't take any pictures of them because there were too many cars behind us. This was fantastic because this was the first time we ever seen big horn sheep this close. When we got to Estes dad filled up the Minnie with gas. After dad was finished we continued our adventure. As we were driving through Rocky Mountain National Forest we took a very curvy road and some places the curves were very tight. We drove through the whole mountain range this time because the road was open. The last time we came here the road was only open for fifteen miles but today the whole road was open. We stopped occasionally to look at different vistas of the Rocky Mountains. We went up to over 12000 feet and when mom and dad would get out the wind would almost blow the doors off their hinges. The wind was very cold so when ever we stopped mom and dad wouldn't stay out too long. The Rocky Mountains were spectacular and the sky was very blue. We saw a few lakes that we frozen over. When we got to the campground we were going to stay at we stopped so I could stretch my legs. Afterwards we went back to the Minnie and continued our adventure. The rest of the drive was very nice we drove by a few ski resorts and the scenery was gorgeous mountain ranges. We stopped in Winter Park and had lunch. We parked in a parking lot and mom and dad made roast beef sandwiches for their lunch. Mom fed me a bone for a snack. After lunch we stopped by Winter Park Village and mom and dad walked around to look at the ski trails and a chairlift. The chairlift was cool because it picked you up in a parking lot and let you off on the mountain. Also you stand on the lift and not sit down so you cannot fall off it. The hotel was very nice. As they were walking around mom took pictures. Afterwards they came back to me. When we got to the Summit, which is where a lot of other ski resorts are. We drove by Copper Mountain Resort and Loveland and both of them were make snow because ever year they have competition to see which one will open first. We also drove through a long tunnel called Eisenhower and Johnson Tunnels. The Eisenhower Tunnel was built in 1973 and the Johnson Tunnel was built in 1979. We drove through the Eisenhower Tunnel. It was fun riding through the tunnel. After driving through the tunnel and go by a couple of ski resorts we continued down the road. As we were driving we saw people working on a new dams in the valley for reservoirs. When we got close to Buena Vista we had to do a detour because there was a bridge out, which took us a few miles out of the way. We arrived in Salida about 3:30. We found the Wal-Mart and then we drove through town. The town's not too big so it didn't take too long to drive through town. When we got back to the Wal-Mart we setup the Minnie for the night. Afterwards mom and dad took me for a little walk around the parking lot. When we got back mom work on her Sudoku and dad read a book on camping in Colorado. While they were relaxing they saw a couple take their dog for a walk, which was on a bike and hike trail. The trail was right next to Wal-Mart and there was a gate that went to it so they decided that they could take me for a walk on the trail later. When dinnertime came around mom made some potatoes and gravy and heated up some chicken for wraps. While making dinner she fed me my food. After dinner we relaxed for about an hour and then we went for a walk. We walked the trail, which was a very nice trail it was like a sidewalk and it had baggies for people to pick up after their dogs. It went along way but we only walked it a short way because it was cold and windy. When we were going back to the Minnie we met a dog and her master. After saying our hellos we went back to the Minnie. Mom and dad went back to Wal-Mart to pick up a couple of things. They really didn't need the items but because we were at a Wal-Mart they decided to pick the items up. They weren't sure when they were going to be by another Wal-Mart. When they got back I was excited to see them and we said our hellos. Then we called it a night. We had a long day of driving and now it's time to say good night.

Tuesday October 9, 2012

Today I woke up about 6:30 and whined for mom and dad but dad didn't get up until 7:00. Dad wasn't in a hurry to get out of bed because we weren't going too far. When he crawled out of bed he got dressed and then he fed me my breakfast. When he finished feeding me he made oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. After everyone was fed we went for a walk on the bike and hike trail by Wal-Mart. As we were walking we met a couple with a dog. The dog was very friendly so we said hi to each other. We walked farther today then we did yesterday. The trail was very nice because it was all concrete. We also saw horses on both sides of the trail. When we got back to the Minnie mom and dad finished get the Minnie ready. There was a lot less noise last night so everyone slept well. When mom and dad were finished we began our adventure to Elk Creek. Elk Creek is located about 40 miles outside of Gunnison. The road that took us to Elk Creek went through a pretty canyon and through Gunnison. Gunnison is a very nice little town. Gunnison is a college town with shops, restaurants and motels. We arrived at Elk Creek about 10:30 and we drove around the campground to found a site. The sites with electricity are $18 and the sites without are $12 so we decided to go with electricity because it has been getting down to high 20s and low 30s. When the water is turned off the sites are discounted to $12 with electricity and $6 without electricity. They turned off the water today but we had already paid for our site for two nights so we paid the full price. We thought even at $18 it was still a great price. After we setup the Minnie we walked around the campground. Elk Creek is a beautiful campground and every site is black topped with a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are very roomy. Elk Creek has a beautiful lake but it's only 40% full right now because Colorado is in a drought just like Texas. As we walked around the campground we walked down to the boat ramp. The parking area was big and there was a floating restroom in the parking area. We have never seen floating restrooms before so mom took a picture of it. Most of the ramp is out of the water but you can still launch small boats. But if you launch your boat when you take it out you have to go through an inspection because they have a big problem with muscle fish. When we got back to the Minnie dad decided to barbecue some sausages for lunch. He was almost finished when the wind came up and he couldn't keep the grill lit so mom finished cooking it in the microwave. While the sausages were cooking mom gave me a milk bone for a snack. Then when they were finished mom and dad sat down and had lunch. After lunch we went for another walk around the campground. We walked to the lake, where we met another camper. He was fishing. We had to walk down a hill to get to the lake. When we got to the lake the other camper stopped fishing and visited with us. We talked to him for about a half hour and then we went back to the Minnie. When we got back we went inside because it was too windy to stay outside. While we were inside mom and dad read and I slept. When dinnertime came a round mom cooked up bacon. Mom and dad had bacon pitas for dinner. Mom fed me my food. This time of the year Elk Creek has only two loops open so when we went for our last walk for the day we walked around one of the close loops. When we got back mom baked some cookies and then we called it a night.

We woke up at 6:00 but dad didn't get out of bed until 6:30. Dad got dressed and then fed me. After feeding me dad fixed oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. After breakfast we walked around the campground. As we were walking we saw a couple of eagles flying. We like watching the eagles fly because they look so graceful. The lake was very flat in the morning because the wind was down. There are no hiking trails at Elk Creek so today was very relaxing. We walked around the campground a few times. When we were going back to the Minnie I stopped by a neighbor to introduce myself  The neighbor had two dogs. They were friendly until I got too close to their food. Then one of the dogs growled  Today we had lunch a little earlier because dad wanted to barbecue before the wind. Dad barbecued sausage patties for lunch. While dad was barbecuing mom and I kept him company. It was perfect because the sun was shining so I could sun. When the sausages were finished mom gave me a milk bone for a snack and then sat down with dad to have lunch. While we were eating the other campers lefts. After lunch mom worked on her Sudoku, dad read and I slept. After awhile we went for another walk we walked to the lake. While we were there we saw a couple of kayakers. When we got back we just relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. The wind came up at 2:00 so dad knew he wouldn't be barbecuing for dinner. When dinnertime came around mom made some mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy came out too thin because mom microwaved it instead of cooking it on the stove. She also made pork n beans with chicken in it. The beans were a little bland . Poor mom usually mom cooks very well but today dinner didn't come out too well but they still ate it. Mom fed me my food for my dinner. After dinner we went for another walk around the campground. When we got back we called it a night. We have been the only camper in the campground but about 7:00 another camper showed up. The camper that showed up had stayed here last night so they knew where to go. Now it's time to say good night.

Today dad woke up at 4:00 because he was warm. He crawled out of bed and turn down the heater and then he went back to bed. It was too early for me so I just stayed in my bed and let dad do what ever he needed to do. Dad woke back up at 7:30 and it was a little cold in the Minnie it was 48 degrees. He crawled out of bed and turned the heater up because mom refused to get out of bed until it was warmer. Dad got dressed and then he fed me my breakfast. Afterwards he made oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. Dad told mom that the only thing she needed to do when she got up was to heat up the water for her oatmeal. Dad and I were finished eating breakfast when mom finally got up. Mom crawled out of bed at 8:00 and got dressed. While she was waiting for her oatmeal to finish cooking she straighten up the Minnie. After mom finished eating we went for a walk around the campground. When we got back dad warmed up the Minnie because today we're going to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. On the way to Black Canyon we wanted to stop and look at a couple of things. The highway to Black Canyon was a curvy mountain road. Some of the curves were tight. The first place we stopped at was the Morrow Point Dam and Reservoir. The dam was huge mom took pictures of it but they didn't come out. On the top of the dam it had four 15-foot square openings. On rare occasions when the reservoir has more water than it can handle the opening are to release the excess water. When this happens it makes a spectacular 350 foot plunge into the spilling basin below. The scenery at the dam was a beautiful mountain range with a river flowing through it. There is a hiking trail that goes along the river but we didn't do it. Also at the same stop there was suppose to have 278 engine there but they had removed it to restore it but they did leave a sign about the engine and the truss. As we were leaving the Morrow Point Dam we saw a few deer climbing up the mountain by the Visitor Center. We didn't stop at the Visitor Center but we saw an exhibit on how they loaded up cattle into railroad cars. The rest of the drive was very nice. When we got to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park it was about 11:00. We drove to through the campground to look at and decided we that we would stay for the night. Before we paid for the night we went to the Visitor Center to check out the weather report. The weather is suppose to get bad tomorrow in the afternoon. It's suppose rain and get snow but it's suppose to clear up Sunday. So we probably will stay until than. After mom and dad checked out the weather they watched a 20 minute movie about the Black Canyon National Park. Black Canyon of the Gunnison became a National Monument in 1933 but didn't become a National Park until 1999. After mom and dad finished watching the movie they came back to me. After we said our hellos we drove the scenic road, which had 12 different places to stop at but we stopped at a few. Black Canyon is magnificent canyon with beautiful vistas. The canyon was formed by the Gunnison River. After stopping a few places to look at the canyon and taking pictures of it we went back to the campground. Once we found a site we setup the Minnie for the night. Once we were setup mom and dad had lunch. They had salami sandwiches and mom gave me a milk bone for a snack. After lunch mom walked to the pay station and paid for the night. Dad and I stayed in the Minnie because it was starting to get hot. Dad read and I slept. When mom got back she worked on her Sudoku. After awhile mom setup our chairs so we could sit in them. She said it was to pretty outside to stay inside. We stayed outside until the wind came up and it started to get a little chilly. I enjoyed it outside because I got to sun but when mom and dad decided to go inside I when inside with them. While we were sitting inside a couple of deer came walking through the campground so mom and dad watched them until they couldn't see them any more. When dinnertime came around mom heated up some leftover bacon for bacon wraps. Mom also cooked up some soup to go with the wraps. Mom fed me my food for my dinner. After dinner we went for a walk. We walked around the campground and part of the rim trail. This is the only trail that I'm allowed. We didn't go too far because it was too late. While walking around we saw a grouse and a few deer. We also saw a few people walking around. When we got back to our site we sat outside and enjoyed the scenery until mom got cold. When we got inside mom baked cookies and then we called it a night.

Pegmatite Dikes of the Black Canyon                          A beautiful rainbow during a rain storm

Friday October 12, 2012

Today we woke up at 7:30 it rained all night and is still raining. No one wanted to get out of bed because it's suppose to rain all day. Dad crawled out of bed to turn up the heater. He got dressed and fed me my breakfast. Then he made oatmeal for mom and his breakfast. Mom crawled out of bed at 7:45 and got dressed. Afterwards she heated her oatmeal up and straightened up my bed. When everyone was fed the rain had let up a little so we went for a walk. We walked around the campground and down to pay station. As we were walking by the pay station we saw a dozen deer. They weren't afraid of us at all. They were standing along the road and drinking what ever moister the rain left on the road. When we were walking towards the deer they just looked at us and didn't even move so we stopped to see what they were going to do. They finally move off and then we continued walking to the dumpster. Afterwards we turned around and continued walking around the campground. When we got back to the Minnie we went inside and relaxed. We stayed inside all day. I slept, dad read and mom did her Sudoku. Occasionally when the rain would lighten up or stop mom and dad would take me for a walk. For lunch dad cooked up soup for mom and his lunch. Mom gave me a little snack. After lunch we continued relaxing. After awhile mom made some banana nut muffins for a snack. About an hour before dinner dad decided to make some gravy for dinner. The other night mom's gravy was a flop so dad decided to see if he could do better. Guess what? His gravy came out excellent no lumps and it wasn't watery. Dad is the winner for making the best gravy ever. Mom told him because it was so tasty that he should make the gravy for now on. When it was time for dinner mom boiled some potatoes to go with dad's gravy. When the potatoes were finished mom heated up the rest of the bacon and tortillas so dad and mom could have bacon wraps. Mom fed me my dinner and she also gave me a piece of bacon. After dinner we went for our last walk around the campground because the weather was going to get bad. As we were walking around we noticed a few more campers showed up. We figured they came in because the weather forecast predicted snow tonight. When we got back we called it a night. Mom worked on her Sudoku and dad read. Mom fixed up my bed so I decided I would go to sleep early. Good night.

Camping in the snow                                           Two grouses playing in the snow

Saturday October 13, 2012

Wow, we woke up to snow this morning. We woke up at 7:00. Dad crawled out of bed and turned up the heater. Then he got dressed and fed me my breakfast. Mom's getting spoiled because once again dad made oatmeal for both of them. Mom crawled out of bed fifteen minutes after dad did. After everyone was fed we went for a walk. The step of the Minnie was full of snow so instead of stepping on the step I jumped over it to get outside. I did this because last time the step had snow on it I slipped and I didn't want to do it again. We walked around the campground we didn't go as far as we usually did because it was snowing and cold. I didn't mind it at all because the weather felt good to me and I didn't even mind the snow hitting me on the head. As we walked we saw a couple of grouses playing in the snow but we didn't see any deer. We walked around the nonelectric loop and noticed a few more campers had showed up last night. When we were almost back mom stopped at the restroom and dad and I met a young yellow lab. She was very hyper and her masters wanted to know if dad would trade me for her because I was very laid back. Dad and I visited with them for awhile and then we went back to the Minnie. We stayed in the Minnie all day because it was wet all day. Dad made soup for mom and his lunch. Mom gave me a snack for my lunch. After lunch mom and dad played a game of Yahtzee and I slept. After their game was over we went for another walk. We stayed inside all day. Mom worked on her Sudoku and updated my website. Dad decided where we were going after we leave Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Occasionally mom and dad would take me for a walk. For dinner mom made Mexican Lasagna and fed me my food. After dinner mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. When we got back mom baked cookies and then we called it a night.

Sunday October 14, 2012

We woke up at 6:30. Mom and dad crawled out of bed together today. This surprised dad and me because she usually stays in bed an extra half hour. What's wrong mom? She said she might as well get up because she was already awake. There was moisture on the window where mom and dad sleep and mom decided to wipe down the window before she got climbed down. After mom and dad got dressed mom fed me and then she made oatmeal for dad and her breakfast. After everyone was fed we went on a walk around the campground. As we were walking around we walked through some fog. The weather was clearing up. The snow was gone and the streets were starting to dry up. When we got back to the Minnie we relaxed for awhile before we left. We didn't leave until 9:30 because dad wanted to wait until the roads were drier. We weren't in any hurry because we were going to Montrose to do some laundry and shopping. When we got to Montrose we found a laundromat. While the clothes were washing and drying mom and dad stayed inside and used the Internet. Dad read his e-mails and mom updated my website. When the clothes were finally done it was 12:00 so mom and dad walked to Taco Bell and had lunch. Before they left mom gave me a milk bone. When they got back we went to Wal-Mart to do a little shopping. After mom and dad finished shopping they came back to me. We said our hellos and then mom put the grocery away. While she was putting the grocery away dad took me for a walk. When dad and I got back dad thought one of the tires on the Minnie was low so he checked it out. He found out that the tire was low so we went to a gas station to air up the tire. After dad did this he decided to drive around town to find a tire store. As we were driving around we found a couple of places but they were all closed on Sunday so we're going to stay in Montrose for the night. Montrose is a very nice town and have some fantastic brass statues in its downtown. We decided to stay at The Home Depot instead of Wal-Mart because we thought it would be quieter. There was a Papa Murphy Pizza in the same shopping center so we had a Jack-O-Lantern pizza for dinner. The Jack-O-Lantern pizza was a pepperoni pizza made like a Jack-O-Lantern. Mom gave me a couple of little pieces of her crust and my food for my dinner. After dinner mom took me for a walk. When we got back mom and dad walked to McDonald for an ice cream cone. When they got back mom took me for another walk and then we called it a night. Dad wants to be at the tire place when it opens up in the morning. The tire place opens at 7:00 so I will say good night because I need to get some sleep.

Monday October 15, 2012
Today we woke up at 5:45 because a delivery truck for Chili showed up. Mom and dad tried to go back to sleep but after about 15 minutes dad crawled out of bed. Mom stayed in bed another 15 minutes. Once dad was dressed he fed me my breakfast and boiled water for oatmeal. He made his oatmeal but left the rest of the water for mom. He didn't want to make mom's oatmeal because it would be mushy by the time she got up. After everyone was fed and dressed we went for a walk around the parking lot. When we got back to the Minnie it was time to go to Big O Tires. Mom finished getting the Minnie ready and then we left. We arrived at Big O a little after 7:00 and they had four people working and they told us that they would be able to fix the tire. Dad was very happy because than we can continue our adventure, We were there about an hour and the employees were very friendly. In fact a few of the employees paid attention to me. This really made my day. By the time we left Big O it only cost dad $11.59 and dad told them that was real cheap. After the flat was fixed we went back to Elk Creek for the night. The drive back to Elk Creek was very pretty with a beautiful canyon made by the Gunnison River. We stopped at the Blue Mesa Dam so mom could take a few pictures. After mom finished we went to Elk Creek. We arrived at Elk Creek about 9:30 and there were a few campers in the campground already. But there was no problem getting the same site we had before which was good because it was a nice site. We setup the Minnie for the night and then we went for a walk around the campground. As we were walking I met a couple of dogs. They were brothers and they both wanted to play with me. They had a lot more energy than I do because they were only 7 months old. They also were white like me. After we said our hellos we continued our walk and we let the owners finish getting their boat ready to fishing. It was a little cold walking around so when we got back we stayed inside. Mom worked on her Sudoku, dad programmed the GPS for tomorrow and I napped in mom's chair. About 10: 45 mom got the meat ready for dad to barbecue. Dad wanted to barbecue before the wind came up because the last time we were here the wind came up every afternoon. Dad barbecued both sausages and sausage patties because he wasn't sure when the next time he would be able to barbecue. While dad barbecued mom and I stayed outside with him to keep him company. I liked this because the sun was out and I could sun a little while. Mom and dad had sausage patties for lunch and mom gave me a little snack for my lunch. After lunch we stayed inside and we all took a little nap. About 3:00 mom decided to do a 30 minutes workout with weights so mom and I went outside. While mom worked out I sunned and dad stayed inside reading. When mom finished her workout we went inside and relaxed until dinnertime. For dinner mom and dad finished up the pizza from yesterday. Mom fed me my food and gave me a piece of her crust. After dinner we relaxed until it was time to go on my last walk of the day. While we were relaxing we saw a few more campers show up. It's nice to see people using the Federal Parks even when it's cold. Our last walk was around the campground. As we were walking I went over to say hi to our neighbors dog. Earlier I met him but his brother had gone home so I said hello only to one of them. After say hi to him we continued our walk. When we got back we called it a night. For dessert mom and dad had banana creme pie pudding. I didn't get to lick the cup because I was sleeping. We had a super day and now it's time to say good night.
