Sunday September 2, 2012

Today I woke mom and dad up at 5:30 because I got sick so mom came downstairs to make sure that I was ok. She cleaned up the mess I made in my bed and folded the bed and towels up the best she could. She told dad that we would have to stop by the laundromat to wash my bed. After mom finished she and dad tried to go back to sleep but they couldn't so dad climbed down and got dressed. When everyone finished getting dressed we went to the laundromat to wash my bed and towels. While mom put my bed and towels in the washer dad took me for a walk. When we got back to the Minnie mom fed me my breakfast and then sat down with dad for breakfast. After breakfast mom and dad went back into the laundromat to wait for the laundry to get finish because it was a little warmer in the building than in the Minnie. Dad once again checked his e-mail and mom updated my website. While they were gone I slept. When they got back to me we left Grand Teton National Park and went to Yellowstone National Park. On the way there dad saw a bear walking into the woods but mom didn't because the bear was too fast. When we were leaving Grand Teton National Park dad took a picture of mom standing in front of a sign. Dad also took a picture of mom standing in front of the sign when we were entering into Yellowstone National Park. We have been to Yellowstone before so dad knew where he wanted to go. We're going to stay at Lewis Lake for a night so he drove to the campground to make sure we could get a site. Before we got to Lewis Lake we stopped by Lewis Fall. It was foggy so mom only took a few pictures. Afterwards we went to the campground. When we got there it was early so we had no problem getting a site. After deciding on the site mom put my chair to save our site because we're going to drive around a little. Before leaving we went for a walk to the lake. While at the lake we met the park host and watched people getting ready to go canoing in the lake. There were too many people there so I didn't go swimming. When we finished our walk we drove down to West Tom Geyser Basin. Mom and dad walked the boardwalk around the basin to look at the geysers and Yellowstone Lake. The basin was busy because there were a few tour buses there. Mom and dad walked the 1/2 mile loop. As they were walking mom took a few pictures. They enjoyed their walk because the cool part about West Tom Geyser Basin was that it was right next to Yellowstone Lake. There were a few geysers actually on the bank of the lake. They also saw a couple of pelicans in the lake. After they came back we went to Grant Village. While we were at Grant Village mom and dad walked through the Visitor Center and bought post cards. As they were walking around the grounds they stopped and talked to Park Ranger Linda. When they got back we went back to our campsite. Once back there mom made sandwiches for dad and her for lunch and she gave me a pork bone. After lunch we all took a nap. When we woke up we setup mom's and dad's chairs and then we went for a walk. We walked down to the lake. We walked along a trail that was on the banks of the lake when dad realized I wasn't suppose to be on the trails in a National Park so he let me get in the lake. After I walked in the lake and drank some of the water we went back to our site and relaxed in our chairs. About 3:30 mom and dad went for a hike along the lake. They were gone about an hour and a half. As they were hiking they saw a couple of guys fishing in a boat that looked like a tube, they saw the people that went out for a canoe ride were coming back and they heard a elf bugling. They had a very nice hike. When they got back they rested a little bit and then mom cooked up some stew for dinner. She fed me my food. After dinner they took me for my last walk of the night. When we got back we watched our new neighbors putting their tent together this was very fascinating because it looked easy. Afterwards we went inside and called it a night. While we were inside mom baked cookies.

Bison walking down the road                   Bison on the hillside in Hayden Valley

LOCATION:  Yellowstone, Wyoming    SITE:  Tower Campground in Yellowstone National Park
DATE:  09/03/12 - 09/05/12    SPACE: 3     TRIP:   85    DISTANCE:  70 miles

Monday September 3, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:15 mom wasn't feeling to good because her allergies were bugging her so she was slow getting out of bed. She got out of bed at 6:30 and we all had breakfast. After breakfast we went for a walk around the campground and then we got the Minnie ready to go. Today we're going to Tower Campground because the last time we were here it was full. On the way to Tower we saw elk, bison and bears. When we were driving the highway towards Fishing Bridge we saw a cow and a beautiful bull elk grazing on the side of the road. A little farther down the road we saw a couple of cow elk by the lake. When we got to Fishing Bridge General Store we saw a big herd of bison grazing in a field with steam coming off of their backs because they just got out of the river and it was cold. We also saw the same herd walk through some trees and down the main highway. The herd was so big that it held up traffic for a little while. When we got to Hayden Valley we saw a lot of bison. They were grazing on the hills, in the valley and on the plains. This was so neat because they were everywhere. The scenery was very pretty. A little farther down the rode cars were stopped going both ways because there was a mama black bear and her cub in the trees. So mom and dad got out of the Minnie and took pictures of them. They told me that it was cute watching the cub playing but it was hard to take pictures because the bears were in the trees. After awhile mom and dad came back to me and the traffic started to move on down the rode. When we got to Tower dad drove inside the campground to find a site for a few nights. One guy was leaving so we waited for him to leave. After he left we took his site. The site was fantastic. After setting up camp we walked around the campground and then we had lunch. For lunch mom and dad had bacon wraps and mom gave me a milk bone. When we finished our lunch mom and dad walked down the the general store and walked through it. After walking through the store they walked to see the falls. As they were going to the Tower Falls a few people were running to take a picture of buck mule deer. Mom and dad looked through their binoculars to see it. After looking at the deer they continued their little hike to the falls. Tower Falls were very nice and dad took a few pictures of them. Afterwards they came back to me. They were gone about a half hour but I acted like they were gone for ever. After we said our hellos we went outside to relax in our chairs. While we were relaxing a lady was trying to back her RV in the site next to us. Dad saw she was having problems so he went over and asked if he could help. She excepted his offer. After she backed the RV in the site she thanked him and he came back to mom and me. After a little while mom did a 30 minute workout with weights. While she worked out dad and I relaxed in our chairs. After she finished her workout she join dad and me. While we were relaxing our new neighbor came out of her RV with her dog and I started to whine for the dog. I whined for awhile until mom and dad couldn't take it any more then dad asked her if her dog was friendly she told him yes. So we went over to visit. Her dog was a Husky named Zack and her name was Diane. He and I got along very well. We stayed there for a couple of hours just talking and enjoying our neighbors company. We said our good-byes and then we went home. When we got back to the Minnie mom heated up leftover bacon and made bacon wraps for dad and her dinner. Mom fed me my food. After dinner mom and dad were waiting to take me for a walk. While they were waiting a couple of buck deer came through the campground. This was so cool because they grazed at Zack's site. Dad took a lot of pictures because they were there for awhile. Then they moved on through the campground. Mom and dad watched them for a long time. After the deer moved on mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. When we were by our we stopped and visit with Zack's mom for another couple of hours. Then we went inside and called it a night.

A crew working on the road at Tower

Tuesday September 4, 2012

Today we had a very relaxing day. We woke up at 6:00 and had a little breakfast. Then mom straighten up the Minnie. After she finished we all went for a walk around the campground. When we got back we drove to Lamar Valley because that's where you can see wolves. We got to Lamar Valley early and watched to see if we could see any wolves. We had no luck in seeing any but we did see a lot of bison and pronghorns. We also saw a coyote along the river hunting. We were watching for wolves for a long time. As we were looking we heard coyotes howling but never saw them. One thing that surprised dad was that there was a company that had an airplane flying overhead and other people driving from pullout to pullout with a scope to spot wolves. Once they spotted a wolf they would radio in the location. But today they really didn't have any luck either. Wolves are very difficult to spot because they only eat every 10 days and they're very shy. Mom and dad were a little disappointed by they knew they might not see any wolves. They said a least they saw a coyote. When we returned to our campsite it was about 10:30 so mom and dad decided to go on a hike. They left me in the Minnie and hiked the trail along the river at the campground. The trail was 2.8 miles long one way but they only hiked about a mile. The trail was very difficult because they had to climb over a lot of down trees from fires and the trail was hard to follow. Some places the trail disappeared so you had to guess where it was. The trail ran right by the river and up and down a hill. On one side of the river there were some trees but on the other side it was baron because of fires. When they got back to the trailhead they took a trail that went down to the store. This trail was suppose to go to the falls but the bridge was out so you couldn't cross the river. When they got to the store they walked through it. Afterwards they climbed up the road that goes to the campground, which was very steep. By the time they got back to the Minnie they were tired so they rested. Before they rested I made them say hi to me. After their rest dad barbecued chicken for lunch. Mom gave me a milk bone for a snack. After lunch we all took a little nap. After our nap we just relaxed inside the Minnie. Dad read and mom worked on her Sudoku and read. When dinnertime came around mom heated up some pork n beans with a little bit of sausage in it for dad and her dinner. She fed me my food. After dinner we continued relaxing and mom gave me a chicken bone. About 7:00 mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. When we got back we sat in our chairs until 8:00. While enjoying the nice cool weather mom baked cookies. When the cookies were done we went inside and called it a night.

Sunrise at Tower Campground                                  Scenery during our hike at Tower

Wednesday September 5, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:15 and mom straightened up the Minnie . When she was finished she fed me my breakfast and sat down with dad to have breakfast. After we finished breakfast dad paid for another night and then we went for a walk around the campground. When we returned to the Minnie we left for a few hours because mom and dad went on a hike. The hiking trail wasn't too far from Tower. As we were leaving the campground we had to wait 20 minutes because of construction being done on the main road through the park. That was ok because they only have a certain amount of time to do it in because the weather will being turning bad pretty soon. When we got to the picnic area, where the trailhead was we were the only vehicle there so we could park anywhere. Mom and dad left me in the Minnie while they hiked the Specimen Ridge Trail. The trail started out going up a steep hill but once on the ridge it got easy. The ridge look over a beautiful river and a mountain range. Sometimes while you hike this trail if you look on the mountain range you can see big horn sheep. But today mom and dad didn't see any but the had a great hike. They only walked 1.5 mile of the trail before turning around. The reason they didn't do the 2 miles was because they didn't want to walk the highway back. During their hike they stopped and looked at the fantastic vistas of the canyon. They also were looking for the big horns. One place the stopped at they took pictures of the construction crew. A couple of guys were climbing on the side of the hill they had cut back. They watched the crew also cut back the hill. They thought this was very fascinating to watch. When they got back to me the picnic area was getting busy and I was very happy to see them because they were gone for a couple of hours. They took me for a little walk before we went back to our campsite. On the way back we drove by another hiking trail to see if there were any parking because mom and dad wanted to hike the trail but the parking area really didn't exist. You had to park along the road so they decided they wouldn't do the hike. While checking the parking out we did see a petrified tree. When we got back to our site we relaxed in the Minnie because it was a little chilly outside. At lunchtime dad barbecued some sausage patties up for mom and his lunch. Mom gave me a milk bone. After lunch mom and dad did another 3 mile hike. This hike was right at the campground. The trail was a service road, which went up a mountainside. The road kept going up and up the mountain top. They stopped occasionally to rest and enjoy the pretty view of the trees on the mountain. The views weren't too clear because of smoke from the fires they are fighting in Yellowstone. They hiked 1.5 miles and then turned around. They weren't up to the top but they weren't sure how much farther it went and they were tired. Only the trail there were signs about bears but they didn't see any. They really enjoyed their hike. The temperature was very nice and not too hot. When they got back they were tired and I was excited to see them. We sat in our chairs and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. Mom and dad read and I slept. Mom did go inside to take a nap. When dinnertime came around mom made tostadas for dad and her dinner. She fed me my food. After dinner relaxed inside for about an hour before we went for a last walk around the campground. As we walked around we said hi to the rest of the campers. Every day we have been here the campground has been full so there was a lot of people to say hi to. When we got back to our site dad put me inside and then mom and dad bagged our chairs. After they finished we called it a night.

Thursday September 6, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:00 and had breakfast. After breakfast we walked around the campground before we left Tower to go to Mammoth. On the way to Mammoth we saw some elk and bison. The drive was very nice we wanted to get to Mammoth Campground early because it fills up fast. Before going to the campground we drove through  the town of Mammoth where we saw some elk grazing and lying on the grass. When we got to Mammoth Campground we drove around to find a campsite. Once we found one we parked the Minnie and then we walked to the office a paid for a night. The camp hosts were manning the office and we very friendly. We forgot to bring back a little piece of the ticket so he walked back to our site with us to get it. The piece we forgot to return to them was a piece they put on a board to know which site was taken. After paying for the site we drove to the town of Mammoth. Mom and dad walked around and went to the Visitor Center. While at the Visitor Center they watched a couple of films on Yellowstone National Park. When the movies were over they came back to the Minnie to get their stuff so they could go take a shower. On the way back from taking a shower they saw Diane walking up the rode. She was surprise to see them and they visit for awhile. I waited in the Minnie until they finished visiting. When they got back we said our hellos and then went to our campsite to have lunch. Mom heated up the leftover bacon and dad and her had wraps for lunch. Mom gave me a milk bone. After lunch we stayed in the Minnie and relaxed. After relaxing a little mom and dad went for a little hike. The hike was up a hill that was right across the road from the campground. Once on top of the hill they saw a beautiful view of Mount Everts. When they got back it was dinnertime so mom cooked up some beef stew and fed me my food. After dinner mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. While we were walking around we a couple Michael and Merri Murphy. They walked around the campground with us and visit. This was so cool because we met new people. We were almost finished with our walk when we was a young ranger walking around and asked him if he was giving a presentation. He said he was at 8:30 about Yellowstone Ecosystem. When we got home we had about a half hour before the presentation so we relaxed in the Minnie. As we were relaxing we saw a storm building up on the mountains. There was thunder and lighting but it went around us so mom and dad went to the presentation. As they were walking to the presentation they heard an elk bugling. Adam was the ranger that did the presentation and he did a great job. They learned a lot about how everything in Yellowstone works together. When they got back we said our hellos and then called it a night.

Diane and Zack                                      Mom crossing a bridge on Beaver Pond Trail

Friday September 7, 2012

Today we woke at 6:00 but mom didn't get out of bed until 6:20 because she wanted to sleep in but dad and I wouldn't let her. She said she thought she could sleep in because the hike they were going to do was just across the road. Dad fed me my breakfast and he was starting to eat his breakfast when mom crawled out of bed. Mom got dressed and then sat down and had her breakfast. After breakfast we went on a walk around the campground. While we were walking around we walked to the office and paid for another two nights. When we got back mom and dad got ready to go on their hike. I couldn't go with them but that was ok because I could watch over the Minnie. They hiked for 4 hours and hiked 6 miles. The trail they took went up and down hills and on a ridge that looked over the Gardine River. They saw a few deer and magnificent view of the mountains. They walked on an expansion bridge that went across the Gardiner River and saw a bridge that took traffic over the river. They saw where the Yellowstone River runs into the Gardiner River. They hiked the trail for 3 miles and then turned around to come back. They saw the same deer twice during their hike. When they were climbing back up a hill they was a couple of fishermen fly fishing. They watched them fish. They actually saw them catch a fish. The trail really was very easy the hardest part was climbing up the hill at the end. They had a great hike. On the way back to me they stopped by and visited Zack and Diane. While they were visiting they invited Diane for dinner. When they finally got home I was very excited because they were gone for over four hours. After we said our hellos mom made lunch. She made sandwiches for dad and her. She gave me a chicken bone. After lunch mom took me for a little walk. As we were walking Merri stopped us to ask mom how her hike went. After mom and her talked a little while we went home. When we got home we took a little nap. After our nap mom cleaned the Minnie while dad and I stayed outside to keep out of her way. When she finished she joined us. After awhile we went inside to relax. As I was finishing up my dinner Diane showed up about 6 for dinner. Mom cooked up some chicken and baked beans for tacos and tostadas. Mom gave me another chicken bone. Diane brought some chocolate chip cookies for dessert and mom had baked some oatmeal Scotchies cookies. While everyone was visiting and having dessert Michael and Merri came by to visit. They were going to leave tomorrow and wanted to say bye and give us their e-mail address. They visit for a little while and then went home to have dinner. After Michael and Merri left we saw some elk walking up a hill across the road and through the campground. We watched them until we couldn't see them any more. Then Diane said good-bye.

A bull keeping an eye on his heirum                                            A elk bugling

Saturday September 8, 2012

Today dad slept in until 6:15. When he got out of bed mom stayed in bed for a little longer. So he got dressed and then he fed me my breakfast. As he was feeding me mom crawled out a bed which was 6:30. Mom got dressed and then sat down with dad to have breakfast. After breakfast we went on a walk around the campground before mom and dad went on a hike. As we were walking we saw a couple of young bulls elk walking at the entrance of the campground. When we returned from our walk mom and dad got ready for a hike. The hiking trail starts in Mammoth instead of driving to Mammoth they decided to walk. There is a hiking trail that starts at the amphitheater and goes up a hill. When they got to the amphitheater there was a good looking big bull elk. Dad took pictures of him and while dad was doing this the elk started to bugling. They watched him for awhile and then they continued their hike up the hill. While hiking up the hill the bull's heirum was spread all over the hillside. When they got to the top of the hill they saw a cow elk and two calves elk. The calves were playing with each other and mom was playing with them. One of the calves decided he wanted to play with mom so he came running to her but because it was a wild animal and his mom was there mom and dad took cover behind a car. Shortly after the first one came towards them the other one decided to do the same thing. After mom and dad took cover the family of elks walked down the hill mom and dad just came from. When the elk moved on mom and dad continued towards the trailhead. As mom and dad were standing at the sign decided if they wanted to do the Beaver Ponds Trail or just walk around a security guard came by and visited with them. When he left mom and dad decided to hike the trail. The trail was 5 miles long. Mom and dad had hiked this trail before so they knew how the trail was. This time instead of starting at Mammoth Hot Springs they started at the other end by the cabins. The beginning of the hike was up a steep hill for about a mile and it was in the open without trees. But once up the hill it flatten out a little. They were about 1.5 mile in their hike when they met a man who was finishing up his hike. As they hiked they went up and down hills and weaved in and out of trees. When they got to the beaver ponds there was a nice bridge that went over a creek. The first time they did this hike they had to climb on down trees to get over the creek. The ponds were very nice. They were so flat you could see the reflections of the trees in them. The ponds had a few ducks swimming. When they got to a big pond they saw a beaver swimming across the pond. When it saw mom and dad it turned around and went back to its den. After walking around the big pond they started hiking towards Mammoth Hot Springs. When they got to the 3 mile marker they met two couples from Holland. Mom and dad stopped occasionally to rest and look at the scenery. As they hike they crossed over a few bridges. At the end of their hike they said hi to a few people just starting their hike. When they got to the parking lot of Mammoth Hot Spring the two couples from Holland waved at them. Mom and dad were surprise they were already finished with the 5 mile hike. They stopped and talked with the people from Holland. After their visit they started their hike back to the campground. When they were walking through the campground they stopped and talked with a man about his old RV. After their visit they came back to me. I was so happy to see them because by the time they got home they were gone for about 5 hours. We said our hellos and then they sat down to rest.Even though they didn't see any elk or deer they still had a great hike. After they rested a little bit mom took me for a walk. When we got back mom heated up leftover sausages for dad and her lunch and she gave me a milk bone. The rest of the afternoon we relaxed around the campsite. About 4:00 Diane came over to give dad a book. While she was visiting she was saying she was having problems with her battery and dad offered to help her out. So we went over to her RV. Zack was inside and watched us as dad helped his mom. After dad finished helping her we all went inside. Diane showed mom and dad her RV. Afterwards they sat down and visited with Diane for a couple of hours, while Zack and I slept. About 6:30 we went back to the Minnie to have dinner.

After dinner mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. When we were walking by Diane's and Zack's place we stopped by to visit a little while. As we were visiting we saw elk start walking through the campground and across the highway. The bulls were starting to bugle. After awhile we saw two bulls challenge each other for the cows. The challenge was so neat because they moved their heads up and down. Then they butted each other and everyone in the campground heard the butting. The challenge lasted a short time but it was cool. One bull went back to his heirum and the other one went to his. One of the bulls came into the campground and chased a cow back up the hill. It looked like he was still a little upset. He stood in the middle of the road for a little while. While he was doing this the cow ran behind and crossed the highway. He finally turned around and went back across the highway. This was very exciting because you hear and see movies about the bulls fighting during the rut season but to actually see it was amazing. After all the excitement was over everyone went back to their campsite. We went in the Minnie and Diane took Zack back to their home. Wow how exciting!!!! Now it's time to say good night.

Mom crossing the creek during a hike                      Upper Falls of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

LOCATION:  Yellowstone, Wyoming    SITE:  Norris Campground in Yellowstone National Park
DATE:  09/09/12 - 09/14/12    SPACE: C51 & C53     TRIP:   85    DISTANCE:  25 mile

Sunday September 9, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:00. Dad crawled out of bed and got dressed. Afterwards dad fed me my breakfast. Mom finally crawled out of bed at 6:20. When she finished getting dressed she sat down and had breakfast with dad. After breakfast we walked around the campground. As we were walking we saw a big bull elk on the hill across the street. He was watching his heirum and bugling. His heirum was spread on the hill and through out the campground. We thought this was so neat. When we got back from our walk we finished getting ready to leave. We going to Norris Campground. As we drove through Mammoth we saw a few elk. There was another bull there he seemed like he was agitated. He tried to attack a jeep but one of the park workers gunned his truck and prevented it. Then he started to chase one of the cows but she didn't want anything to do with him. People were stopping and taking picture. We were one of the people doing this. There were a lot of workers around to make sure everyone was safe. One man got out of his car and one of the workers told him to get back into his car because he was too close to the bull. We watched him for awhile and then we continued our adventure to Norris Campground. While we were driving we saw a few bison and geysers. The road was curvy in places. One place it looked like we went over a cool bridge because of the curve. We drove through a canyon. The drive was very pretty. When we got to Norris it was early and the campground had a full sign on it. But we saw a few people leaving so we drove around the campground to find a site. There were a few available so we decided on one and parked the Minnie. After we setup the Minnie for a couple of nights we went on a walk around the campground. I was very happy to get out of the Minnie. We saw a lot of people camping and getting ready to go. When we got back mom and dad went on a hike. They hiked a couple of miles round trip. They had to cross a creek and to do this they had to walk on a couple of fallen trees. As they were walking on the trees they had to be careful they didn't fall in the creek. The trees would bounce as they walked on them and they forgot to take their hiking poles to help keep their balance. They had to cross on the trees twice because the hike they did wasn't a loop. The trail at the beginning was very steep and went up a hill. But once they were on top on the hill it leveled out and was very easy to hike. As they hiked where the trail was flat they looked for a stick to help them cross the creek on the way back. They hiked through a meadow and by the creek. The view from the top of the hill was very beautiful. They really enjoyed their hike because it was very peaceful. On the way back to our site they stopped and talked to two ladies that were from Austin just like us. After visiting with the ladies they came back to me. We said our hellos and then dad barbecued pork steaks for mom and his lunch. After they ate their lunch mom gave me one of the bones. When we finished our lunch we went outside and relaxed on our chairs. Dad sat in my chair because his chair broke a couple of days ago. At first I was confused but then I didn't care because I liked laying in the sun. At 4:00 mom decided to do a little workout with her weights before dinner. She worked out for about 30 minutes. Then dad barbecued sausages for dinner. Mom fed me my food. After dinner we went for a walk around the campground. It was a very nice walk because I met a few people. When we got back to our campsite we stayed outside. We didn't stay out too long because I was tired and wanted to go inside. Once inside we decided to call it a night.

Mom working out                                       Lower Falls of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Monday September 10, 2012

Today dad got out of bed at 6:15 and mom stayed in bed for another 15 minutes. Dad fed me my breakfast and was going to eat breakfast for himself when mom got out of bed. Mom got dressed and then sat down to have breakfast with dad. After breakfast we went for a walk around the campground. When we got back we straightened up the Minnie because we're going to do a little site seeing. We drove back to Hayden Valley to look at the bison and maybe see a wolf. On the way there we stopped because dad saw a bull elk cross a river. Mom and dad got out of the Minnie and looked at the elk with their binoculars. After watching him for awhile we continued down the road to Hayden Valley. We saw a lot of bison there and we didn't see any wolves. The bison was on the hills, in the valley, walking along the road, walking across the road and grazing in the fields. Some of the bison were rolling in the dirt and sparing with each other. This was so cool to watch. After watching the bison we headed back to Norris. We stopped at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We have been here before so it really didn't take too long. Mom and dad took pictures of the Upper Falls and Lower Falls. It has been drizzling on and off all morning so the pictures didn't come out has bright has they should. The falls and canyon were still nice to see. This time mom and dad didn't hike Uncle Tom's Trail, which was 328 steps down in the canyon to see a view of the Lower Falls. After viewing both sets of falls and the canyon we continued back to Norris. As we were driving we saw a few firefighters getting ready to work on the fires that are burning in Yellowstone. Some days the smoke is bad and today is one of those days. When we got back we looked for another campsite because there are two dead trees on our site and they're making dad nervous. We saw that the site right next to us was available so dad just moved to it. The wind was up today so for lunch mom cooked up some soup for dad and her. She gave me a bone for my snack. We spent the rest of the day relaxing at our campsite. Mom and dad read and we all took a nap. Mom did a 30 minute workout with her weights. For dinner mom cut up a sausage and put it in some bake beans for dad and her dinner. She fed me my food. After dinner we went for our last walk of the day around the campground. When we got back we sat outside for awhile. While outside a young lady from Canada came over and visit with us. As we were visiting with her a dog came by so I had to introduce myself. After saying our hellos mom took me back to the Minnie and then we went inside for the rest of the night. We had a great day. Have fun !!!!

Tuesday September 11, 2012

We woke up a littler earlier today, which was 6:00. While dad was feeding me my breakfast mom decided to get out of bed. Mom got dressed and straighten up the Minnie a little before she sat down to have breakfast. Dad had his breakfast while mom was straightening up the house. After everyone finished their breakfast we went on a walk around the campground. It was early so most of the campers were still sleeping. We left our site about 7:00 we want to do a little site seeing. The first place we wanted to stop at was Madison Campground because we needed to dump our tank. On the way to Madison we saw a cow elk by the road and as we were driving through Gibbon Meadow area when we saw people stopped at a pullover so we stopped. We saw three wolves hunting in the meadow. We watched them along time. One of the wolves walked through a creek to hunt. This was very fascinating to watch. Mom and dad didn't want to leave but we did when the wolves started to move away. After watching the wolves we continued our adventure to Madison. When we got to Madison the dump station was closed until 8:30 so we decided to drive around until it opened up. We drove a 2 mile scenic road through the Fire Hole area but we didn't stop. It was a beautiful drive even through we didn't stop. Afterwards we drove to Old Faithful Lodge because mom and dad wanted to take a shower. Before they left me mom took me for a walk. Mom and dad were gone for a couple of hours because they saw Old Faithful go off and they toured the lodge. After mom and dad finished taking their showers they walked around the lodge and took pictures. Old Faithful Lodge is gorgeous. The main lobby is very rustic with all the original logs, staircases, main entrance door, fireplaces and rooms. After taking pictures they saw that Old Faithful was going to erupt in a few minutes so they decided to stay and watch. They had a fantastic view they sat on the balcony of Old Faithful Lodge that looked over Old Faithful. The benches and chairs on the balcony were very rustic.  During the tour mom and dad learned about the history of the lodge, how it was built, who designed it, why it was built and how and why the addition two wings were built the way they were. They had a fantastic tour and the tour guide Lucy did a super job. When they got back to me I was excited to see them. After saying hi we drove over to the new Visitor Center. Mom and dad walked through it and they sat down to watch a movie. As they were watching the movie they realized they had already seen it so they left. When they got back mom made sandwiches for lunch while dad took me for a walk. When dad and I returned to the Minnie a coupe from Belgium came by to ask dad where they were. Dad explained to them where they were and gave them advice on places to see during their visit. After they left we had lunch. Mom gave me a milk bone for a snack. After lunch we headed back to Madison. When we drove by Gibbon Meadow we saw a coyote, where the wolves were earlier. We watched him hunt and catch his lunch. We watched him for along time. Mom got some good photos of him because he came real close and crossed the road while he was hunting. He was a great hunter and very patient waiting for his prey to appear. After he moved on we went to Gibbon Falls. Mom and dad walked around and took pictures of the falls. When we got back to Norris Campground area we drove through the parking area of the Norris Geysers Basin but didn't stop because it was too busy. Mom and dad decided they would walk over to do the hike around the geysers another day. When we got home we parked the Minnie and decided to rest for the rest of the afternoon. Mom and I went outside so I could sun while she read a book. Dad was tires so he stayed inside to lay down while. After awhile mom and I went inside so mom could take a nap before dinner. When dinnertime came around mom boiled some Bow Tie Noodles and heated up sauce for dad and her dinner. She fed me my food. Mom did give me a couple of the noodles after they were cooked. After dinner we walked around the campground for my last walk of the day. As we were walking we saw a bison walking by the river so mom took pictures of him. He walked through the river to get on the other side but mom wasn't fast enough to get a picture. When we got home we went inside and mom baked some Blueberry muffins for dessert. We stayed inside for the rest of the night. I'm tired so I will say good night.

Gibbon Falls                                                                      A coyote hunting

Wednesday September 12, 2012

Today we woke up a little later than our normal time 6:15. It got cold last night in the upper 20s. The Minnie was 40 degrees inside and we didn't have the heater on so mom refused to get out of bed. Dad turned on the big heater to get the chill out of the air. We ran it for fifteen minutes. During that fifteen minutes I sat in front of  the vent. Dad didn't want the battery to get to low so he turned it off. Dad fed me my breakfast and sat down to eat his, when mom decided to get out of bed. Mom didn't have to straighten up the Minnie today because we decided to stay around the campground today. After we finished our breakfast we went for a walk. When we returned mom and dad got ready to go on a hike. They were going to hike the Norris Geysers Basin, which is across the road from the campground. We hiked over six miles by the time they got back. Once they got across the road they had to hike a mile trail to the basin. The trail was through trees and went up and down little hills. When they got to Norris Geysers Basin it was early and cold so the geysers were very active. They saw a few people walking around the geysers and taking pictures. The cool part of this was the people they saw looked like they were walking in the fog. Some of the geysers they saw were Puff & Stuff Geyser, Steamboat Geyser, Whale's Mouth, Minute Geyser, Veteran Geyser and Pork Chop Geyser. They couldn't all to the geysers because there were some construction on the broadwalk but they did see most of them. While walking on the boardwalk there are benches if you need to sit down and rest. When they were almost finished their walk around the basin people were starting to show up. Before leaving the basin they stopped and walked through the museum. After walking through the museum they stopped at a pond and sat on a down tree and rested. When they finished their rest they hiked the mile back to Norris Campground. They didn't come directly back to the Minnie they stopped at Norris Soldier Station Museum. They walked around and looked at the exhibits. Afterwards they watched a movie on the National Parks. When they finally got home I was excited because they were gone for four hours. After I said hello to them we went on a walk. During our walk we stopped by and talked to our neighbors from Canada. When we finished our visit we went back to the Minnie. Mom cooked up some chicken soup for lunch. She gave me a little snack. We stayed around our campsite all afternoon. Mom and I stayed outside and dad relaxed inside. Mom read a book while I sunned and dad read. We had a every relaxing afternoon. For dinner dad barbecued pork steaks for mom and his dinner and mom fed me my food. After dinner mom and dad took me for a walk around the campground. Once again when we were walking around mom didn't see any bison while dad was in the restroom. But dad and I saw a small herd of bison walking in the meadow where we saw that bull last night, when mom was in the restroom. Poor mom she can't win. As we were watching the herd of bison walking through the meadow by Gibbon River we visit with a guy from Ohio. We had a very nice visit and then we finished our walk. When we got back mom baked some cookies for dessert. We stayed inside for the rest of the night. Seeing the herd of bison was a perfect ending of a marvelous day.

Norris Soldier Station Museum                               A wolf crossing Gibbon Meadows

Thursday September 13, 2012

Only in Yellowstone you wake up in the morning to the bugling of elk and the howling of wolves or coyotes. Today we woke up to the howling of wolves or coyotes at 6:15 this was so neat. Dad got out of bed and got dressed while mom stayed in bed to keep warm. Afterwards he fed me my breakfast and sat down to have his. Last night it got down to 18 degrees, we were glad we weren't tenters because we had a heater and they didn't. The small heater we have kept the Minnie at 45 degrees on low, which was 5 degrees warmer than yesterday. Mom heard the howling so she decided to crawl out of bed because she wanted to see the wolves. When she was crawling out of bed dad was just sitting down to have breakfast. She got dressed and then sat down with dad for breakfast. After breakfast mom straightened up the Minnie because we're going to go looking for wolves because it's too cold to hike. When mom finished straightening up we went for a walk around the campground. When we returned dad warmed up the Minnie before we left. We didn't go too far we went to Gibbon Meadows. We sat in the pull off for about a half to forty-five minutes before we saw a wolf. People pulled over but didn't stay. After about a half hour mom wanted to leave because she was cold but dad decided to stay. There were a couple of guys with big camera looking for the wolves and one of them decided to go down the road to look for the wolves. But the one that stayed spotted one and told the other people there where it was. Mom pointed where the wolf was so dad and mom were so excited that they got out to watch. Once the wolf was spotted other cars stopped to see it. Everyone there was very excited. We watched him for awhile. We saw him grab something in his mouth and went towards the trees with it. We watched him until we couldn't see him. Dad drive down to another pull over and asked the two guys with the big cameras what the wolf had picked up. They weren't exactly sure. They thought it was a young elk because they saw the wolf with the upper part of the animal yesterday. Mom and dad visited with the two guys for a little while then we went back to the first pullout. We didn't see another wolf so we went back to the campground. When we got back it was 9:00 so mom and dad decided to go on a hike before lunch. I wanted to go but I wasn't allowed on the trail. So mom gave me a milk bone for a snack. They were gone for 4 hours and hiked 6 miles. They hiked to trail that went to Ice Lake. They didn't get to the lake because one way it was 4.5 miles but they did hike 2.5 miles of it. The trail went across a creek, where mom and dad had to walk on fallen trees that made a bridge. Once across the creek they hiked up a hill. When they got to the top of hill it flattened out. They hiked through trees on the hill and along a meadow. While walking along the meadow they saw a hawk hunting. They continued down the trail when it turned into a game trail. They were hiking it for awhile when dad saw a trail marking in the middle of the meadow. So they hiked back and walked through the meadow to the marker. They had to cross a creek a couple of time one time they stepped over it and the second time there was a bridge made of fallen trees. Once on the other side of the meadow they found the trail. Dad was excited because he found the trail because as they were crossing the meadow the trail had disappeared. Where the trail picked up again there was a backpacker campsite. They hiked the trail for a little longer. Once again they had to climb up a hill but once on top of the hill it flattened out. They were going to hike to Ice Lake but the trail wasn't marked to well and they didn't know how far away they were from the lake. So they turned around and head back. They had hiked 3 miles already. On the way back they followed the marker that they found. When they got through the meadow dad was trying to figure out where they went wrong. He decided that he probably would make the same mistake because the trail really isn't marked well. They hardest part of the trail was the half mile back to the campground because it was up hill. When they got back to the sign about the trail they met a young couple and told them about the trail. The couple thanked them and mom and dad continued back to me. By the time they got back to me it was 1:00 and they were exhausted. All they wanted to do was to sit down but I was so happy to see them I wouldn't let them until they said hi to me. After they rested a little mom made soup for their lunch and gave me a bone. After everyone was fed we stayed at our campsite relaxing the rest of the afternoon. Mom worked on her Sudoku, dad read and I slept. When dinnertime came around mom cooked up some beef stew for dad and her dinner and she fed me my food. After dinner we went on a walk. During our walk we looked for wildlife and didn't see any but I did meet a new friend. My new friend was four months old and we played a little. When we got back to the Minnie we called it a night. We had a fantastic day.

Whale Mouth Geyser at Norris Basin                        One of the exhibits at Canyon Visitor Center

Friday September 14, 2012

Today we woke up at 6:00 and it was 20 degrees so dad decided not to get out of bed until 6:25. That was ok with me because it gave me some time to groom. When dad crawled out of bed he got dressed and then he fed me. Mom got out of bed 6:35. When she got out of bed she got dressed and then straightened up the Minnie. Afterwards she sat down with dad and had breakfast. After breakfast we went for a walk around the campground. Today was going to be an easy day because dad's feet were a little tender after the hike mom and he did yesterday. When we got back to the Minnie we drove down to Gibbon Meadow again to look for the wolves. Today it was foggy and you could hardly see anything. We sat in the Minnie looking to find the wolves but they never came around. We were there for about an hour. We did see four geese walking in the meadow across the road. When we left we drove to Canyon Village but before we went to there we stopped by the Inspiration Point of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Mom and dad got out and looked at it. Mom took a few pictures of it. Mom walked down some stairs to get better pictures of the falls and the canyon but dad didn't want to climb down the stairs so he came back to me. So dad and I patiently waited for mom. When she returned to us we went to Canyon Village, where mom and dad walked through the Visitor Center, the Sporting Goods Store and the General Store. Canyon Visitor Center was had a lot better exhibits of Yellowstone than the other Visitor Center. It had exhibits of the wildlife you can see in Yellowstone such as bison and birds. It also had a great exhibit that talks about Yellowstone and the Ecosystem in Yellowstone. When they got back to me we went back to our campsite in Norris. When we got back mom took me for a walk. We relaxed at our campsite for the rest of the day. For lunch dad barbecued sausage patties for mom and his lunch. Mom gave me a milk bone. After lunch mom and I sat outside while dad stayed inside reading. Mom worked on her Sudoku and I sunned. We had a very relaxing day and I did a lot of sunning. When dinnertime came around dad barbecued some pork steaks up. Mom cooked up some green beans to go with them and fed me my food. I always like it when they barbecue pork steaks because that means that I will get the bones. After dinner mom and dad took me for my last walk around the campground for the day. As we were walking around I met a few people. They were happy to see me so they came up to me and pet me, which always makes my day. A couple we met had left their dogs at home so they wanted to say hi. While they were paying attention to me they visited with mom and dad. Everyone we talk to as we walk around the campground are very nice and excited about what they have seen during their stay in Yellowstone. There is so much to see and everyone has a different experience. This couple saw a grizzly bear and wolves. While we were talking the camp hosts came by and visited. After visiting we went back to the Minnie and called it a night. While we were inside mom made some Jiffy Pop popcorn for dessert. Now it's time to say good night.

 Saturday September 15, 2012

Today we woke up at our normal time. Dad fed me my breakfast and then sat down for breakfast. Mom decided she wanted to sleep in because we weren't leaving the campground. But she stayed in bed for another 10 minutes because she said she couldn't sleep any more. She crawled out of bed and got dressed. Afterwards she sat down and had breakfast. When we were all fed we went for a walk around the campground. As we were walking we saw that the smoke was real bad so we decided to move onto West Yellowstone, which was 28 miles form here. When we got back to the Minnie we straighten it up and put things away in order to move on. Before leaving Norris area we stopped at Gibbon Meadow to look for wolves but today we didn't see any. We sat and waited for a half hour and then we left. The drive through the rest of Yellowstone was very nice. We saw a few bison as we were driving. The closer we got to the West entrance more and more people were coming in Yellowstone. When we got to West Yellowstone, Montana we drove through the town to Bakers Hole Campground. We were driving around the campground to look for a site and the camp host stopped us and told us which site was available. She also pointed out a few sage grouses walking in the trees. When we found a site we drove back to the entrance to get an envelope so we could pay. We got back to our site and parked the Minnie. Then we walked around the campground towards the entrance to pay for the night. While we were walking around we met a gentleman. He showed mom and dad a video of a couple of grizzly bears and a wolf that he saw. After talking with him a little while we went back to the Minnie. When we got back we decided that we would go back to town to do laundry and a little shopping. After we finished the laundry we went to a McDonald so dad could check his e-mail and mom could update my website. We hadn't done this in two weeks. While we were at McDonald mom and dad had lunch. After they finished lunch mom took me for a walk. When we got back mom and dad went grocery shopping. After shopping we went back to the campground. By the time we got back it was 3:00. Mom and dad took me for a walk down to the Madison River, which runs by the campground and through Yellowstone. When got to the river I went swimming the water felt good because I haven't gone swimming for awhile. It has been so dusty and I was dirty so when I got out of the river I was a lot cleaner. After I finished swimming mom wiped me down with a towel. Then we went back to our site. When we got back mom and dad read and I did some sunning. Mom peeled and cut up some potatoes for dinner. She also made some gravy to go with them. Dad didn't eat all his lunch so he shared his cheese burger with mom. Mom fed me my food for dinner. After dinner we walked again around the campground to the river so we could look for moose. We didn't see any moose but we met a couple from Little Rock, Arkansas. They had a chocolate lab named Shelby. She was the same age as I am and she tried to get me to play but I really don't play. I like to meet other dogs but I really don't run around and play. Shelby's owners names were John and Carolyn. We visited with them for a couple of hours. We have met a lot of nice people and dogs during this trip. When we got back to the Minnie we went inside for the night. Mom had yogurt for dessert and dad had pudding for dessert. While mom was updating my website the host came by to let us know that there was a bear spotted in the campground and to make sure that everything was put away. Mom thanked him. So we are really in Bear Country. Now I will say good night.
